    Any problems with high-idle reflash?

Obviously it hasn't been cold enough for most people who have had the reflash done to see if it helps. For those who have had this reflash done, have you had any problems with power loss or mileage drops? The idea of a reflash scares me a little, and I would like to be sure it dosn't have...

    Normal amount of blow-by?

socal_rattler: There is a reason for the holes--you don't want any pressure to build up in the blow-by system. Positive pressure up there will eventually blow a gasket. The holes that are there are probably bigger than they need to be, though. --J

    Rear END!!!

2 quick questions-- While we're on the topic: (1) None of the 4x4 crowd seems to talk about changing their gearing. Is it that much of a pain to swap out fronts and rears? Or is it just not worth the added expense? (2) Are they 3. 55s or 3. 54s? I've seen it both ways. On my charts...

Hate to keep asking about my fuel mileage.....

Do you have the trip computer? If you do, try this (if you don't, read on anyway, I'll tell you what I've observed). Go to a "gas" station close to an interstate or major highway. Fill up, and reset the Trip Computer (reset everything, especially the Average MPGs). Set the Trip Comp so...

    24-valve diesel overheating when towing

While we're on the subject, I have a question--- The factory fan clutches that we have--how do they work? Obviously they engage and disengage the fan, but what tells the clutch when to engage? Is what type of clutch is it? (I think it feels like some kind of viscous coupler, but I'm not...

    First Oil Change

Just watch out for that positive connector on the alternator when you're working that strap wrench back there..... -J:o

    Gas Filter Change - Problems?

Check out http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/00fuel_filter.htm for all you need to know about this procedure. It's easy, only takes a few minutes, and is mess-free if you use the zip-lock bag trick. Personally, I think the recommended 15000 mile interval is a bit long to go on...

    fuel pressure erratic

I had what sounds like a very similar problem. Fuel pressures bouncing all over the place under steady throttle, but mine returned to "normal" at idle. I tested the sender, it was fine. In the process I re-plumbed the setup, and I havn't had the problem since. The only thing I can think of that...

How long does your lift pump run?

Mine runs for a few seconds when the key is first turned to "on". I've noticed that it shuts off the same time as the wait-to-start light goes off (non grid heater season only). It looks like the ECM wants you to wait until the fuel system has been primed before you start it up. --J

Brakes didn't want to stop truck

While the hard-stopping method of forcing the non-self adjusters to work will get the job done, I just do mine while I have the rear wheels off for tire rotation. Since I know they don't like to work right, I feel better about the process when I turn the little star wheels myself, feeling for...

    Brakes

I've had the same thing. Mine is an intermittent failure--the lights come on, I shut the truck off, wait a few minutes, start it up again, and it looks just fine. I finally got it to stay on consistently, so I brought it to the dealer. They said the code that was set was marked as "old" by the...

    Gauges and FP Sensing Point

You can install the Westach guages in the Autometer pillar. The westach catalog calls them 2 1/8", but they fit in the 2" autometer pillar with the help of just a little minor filing. There are 2 fuel pressure test ports as the truck comes from the factory. One is on the line going into the...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Factory ECM has fast idle option in cold weather

It seems to me that even the idiots at DC could find a way to make this work for a stick. On a manual, if vehicle speed = 0mph and the engine is on, either it's in neutral or the clutch is disengaged (or both). Does the ECM read an input from the clutch interlock switch? Just a thought...

    Help with 5-star

They told me that there was a keyway on the steering wheel and a key on the shaft so that there was no way the steering wheel could have been put on misaligned. This makes intuitive sense--but it obviously isn't perfect. I'll try being nice first, I guess  --J

    Front end lube

Thanks, Happy Camper. I never would have found those. I tend to agree that lube is a good thing, three whole points dosn't seem adequate. Oh, well. Thanks again, --J

    Front end lube

I got out the grease gun today to lube up the front end. I could only find one zerk fitting--just in front of the diff and off to one side. I know there are more--where are they?? --J

    Help with 5-star

After popping my 2nd clockspring last week, I scheduled an appointment with my local 5-star to get it replaced under the recall. (17,400 miles). They replaced my clockspring, and I drove away. I noticed that the steering wheel was no longer on center, but was about 10 to 15 degrees off. This...

    Lift pump help.....

I have heard a rumor that diesel fuel and gasoline may spontaneously ignite when mixed. Is there any truth to that? (while we're on the topic... . ) --J
