Archived No power steering or brakes...

If I recall, the service manual procedure calls for starting the truck, making sure the steering/brakes have assist, shutting the truck off and waiting one hour before testing for brake assist without engine. It's easier and quicker to get an indication using the large parking lot method...

Archived No power steering or brakes...

As the guys said, you should have a couple of good brake assists but no steering assist. Check it just to be sure - you really don't want to have to stop this truck without assist from highway speed.

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 3.54 gears vs 4.10?

I have 36" tires and I often find myself looking for 7th gear. I ordered the 4. 10's knowing I was going with a bigger tire, but if I had it to do over I would get the 3. 54. It's easy to add more power, but adding more gears is difficult. With the lift, tires, bumper, and a heavy foot I get...

Archived No power steering or brakes...

Was there any fluid on the ground? The P/S pump provides assist for both steering and brakes. There is a small cylinder on the hydroboost unit behind the brake master cylinder - it is pressurized Nitrogen which is used to provide brake assist if the pump isn't running (engine stall/etc. ) Mine...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ecm needed

If you want to verify it's the ECM you can swap it with another 01 - if you can find a buddy who will trust you! :-laf Does the "wait to start" light act normally? Does the lift pump run for 30 seconds when you bump the starter? It might be unlikely for them to crap out, but mine did. Got...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Map sensor part #'s

I just picked up a brand new 2001 map sensor (pressure sensor on the package) for $76 from the Cummins dealer - the number on the box is 4921505. The old sensor has a 3417030 (? - difficult to read) molded in it as well as the 10703. I'm sure someone has posted pics if you do a search and...

Exploring garage/shop options - pole barn or not for attached building?

The house looks kinda small, but I like the garage! :-laf 3 vehicle bays, a skid steer, and a hoist bay seems a little optomistic in 40'. No matter how big it looks empty after you first build it, I swear shops must shrink over time. I drew mine out with all the tools, shelves, benches...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ROAD ARMORS Are On

I guess not everyone likes the big brushguard look - personally I do! Looks like you're not going to come in second in a collision with deer or tailgaters. That's the bumper I modeled mine after. Like the body color too - debated on that and ended up going the easy route. My goal was...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission How to Install Coil Spring Spacers ??

One tip I rarely see is to loosen and retighen all of the control arm bolts. You can do them one at a time (especially front lower with cam bolts) to allow the bushings to be in a neutral condition at the new ride height. Made a huge difference in ride on mine.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Front Bumper Pics

Not quite finished yet - winch mount and tow points at a minimum. Actually would like to replace fog lamps since they look so small now. [/IMG]

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Serious 4.10 gear ??????'s

I have a 6-speed with 36" tires and I always find myself looking for 7th gear. If I had it to do over I would order 3. 55's instead of 4. 10's. Nice to have for the benefits occasionally, but for most of the time 3. 55 would be better.

Black 3rd gen with stacks seen exiting I96 around Inkster at 4:45 tonight - I was in the red 2nd gen with the deer hunting bumper continuing on I96. Anybody take credit?

    Archived Started- Quit

There is no fuse to the lift pump - it is wired directly to the ECM. Does the wait to start light operate normally? Any other gauge issues? Mine drove me nuts trying to diagnose and it ended up being a faulty ECM. Eventually, the lift pump would not run when keyed on or even bumping the...

    Build your own winch bumper?

    3/16" plate and 4" x 0. 218" wall pipe - weighs in at around 275 pounds. [/IMG]

    Build your own winch bumper?

Here's mine: I posted at the time that I recommend buying commercial too! Still haven't mounted the winch, but that is in the long term plan.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck Dead - Questions about VP-44 , ECM

My 01 died and turned out to be ECM. Was only getting 8-9 volts to the LP (though it may have been more at the beginning of my diagnosis). You could check that. Here's my original thread and what I tried: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173778 Good luck.

Archived Truck died and wont start

Does the FASS use the original lift pump wiring? If so it's wired directly to the ECU - might still be fused after that. Read my post in 911 archive. Short story: bad ECU. Also do a search on how to jump the VP44 - power and ground to pins 6 and 7 (not sure which order!) will allow start and...

271 transfer case swap with NV5600????

03-05+ trucks came with a 5600 and a 271 (or 273) so it should be no problem with stock parts. You will need a 271 output shaft yoke for the rear shaft and I'm not sure about the front. The drop distance on the 271 is larger than your original transfer case, but you probably already knew that.

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No voltage from ECM to fuel transfer lift pump

Lift pump is wired direct to ECU. Mine was bad ECU - see my post in 911 archive. Some have hot-wired it.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No Steering Or Brakes

Do a search on hydroboost - the nitrogen cylinder may have burst and pushed fluid out. Replace it if so - it's for emergency braking if engine is off. You can refill fluid, raise RPM and turn lock to lock to purge air - then replace it. Will work fine (except emergency). Replace it if burst...
