I am going to grind a stock plate to a #0 to try it out. I have one question though. Some have mentioned that the key is where the plate is ground to. I believe 19mm was the magic rack travel number? however, why does it matter if you can slide the plate anyways? cant you just grind it and then slide it to obtain the 19mm rack travel?

shoot a PM to Forrest Nearing... . he did a 0 plate himself. you might try searching some threads. he posted a picture of it..... hope that helps...

#0 plate

i ground my stock plate and made a very small half moon curve on the bottom. i love it, but i need to go back and adjust the rack because it's going under the plate! as far as 19mm of travel, id adjust the plate vs. trying to get the plate ground to let only 19mm of travel.

I designed the #0 and always have one around. The placement of the surface is carefully made for proper rack travel.

It is a mistake to use it with a stock turbo, because egt's will be very high and exhaust restriction will strongly limit the hp gain.

After reading the above statement Joe I have to ask you this. My current ADP plate somewhat resembles a "Zero plate" and I also have PDR 370's..... I CANNOT break 1200* pre-turbo

I have checked the OF valve, and (stupidly) replaced the lift pump, also did the filters pre-screen & fuel. I absolutely CANNOT break 1200* though.

If I'm running a plate similar to a zero and 370's shouldn't I be burying my 1600* pyro?

Joe,

How does the 0 plate differ from a #4 TST plate? Can it be used with an automatic & stock turbo? The BHAF & 4" exhaust should help .

Is there something written down somewhere regarding these pumps that describes and illustrates what is actually going on inside when the throttle is pressed?

I have changed plates in mine several times and always put them in at the stock location because that is the only reference I know about. I move the governor arm up or down to accomodate the different plates but I really don't have a clue about what is going on.

i have no plate but and putting my stock ground plate back in. I ground mine flat with the top edge and polished it smooth. i am going to reinstall it and start messing with some adjustments and see what i can do. If i dont like what i get i will either take the plate back out or buy a new plate. I have been told by several people who unlike myself really know what they are talking about that grinding you own plate to a zero (if that is what you are looking for) is not that bad of an idea.

Quick ques. it is my understanding that you dont have to worry about the rack not hitting the zero is that correct.

by the way i am going to start with my homemade 0 in the stock postion and move around from there i will let you know what i find out.

Smoke on!

I think bently publishers has some bosch books that describe the pump operation.

I might just wait on the number 0 until I get a clutch and turbo(s). Even then I might just go 10 or 100. well see.

I'm still a newby on this, but is there something on the net which shows a diagram of how the plate interacts with the other components of the pump, and what the differant shapes look like and how they function?

The #0 with 370s in a 215 hp pump should bury the pyro, unless you installed the probe in the tailpipe tip :D or have Pius' MSB 3-1250 turbo ( and I think I have the only one of them) :)

i had a 0 plate in my truck, now i am going to more of a 10 plate to lessen fueling at low rpms. with my 0 plate and stock injectors i could bury my pyro at 1600 (not good), great plate, i will put it back in as soon as i have the billet input and twins installed.

av8r- check out www.piersdiesel.com , and in his technical section it shows some of the internals of the pump and where the gov arm hits the plate.

i have one before the turbo and after and sometimes i saw as much as a 500 degree dif between the 2, now it was just a spike but damn that is alot of difference. that was with the stock hx35, havent hooked up the post with the 40 downpipe yet.

Im doin the same thing. I got another thermo to put in the manifold. Iam gonna put a switch so I can see either reading, and am probably going to us the post for a turbo timer.
