Checked my front pads today:mad: !!!

Noticed a little more maroon coloration on left front wheel. :( Sure enough, the left front pads are grabbing more than right front. :(

The inner left pad is down to 1/8 inch!!! :--)

The 3 other pads are about 3/16.

These semi-metallic, long life, blah, blah, blah pads only lasted for about 14,000 miles!!! :{

What can I do to correct this??? :confused:

PLEASE HELP ME :{

You should also polish the slide surfaces on the caliper and the knuckle with a file, making sure to keep it flat without removing much material. Grease the surfaces you polish and reassemble. It will help a ton getting the caliper to release properly.

Polish the sleeves with some 800 or finer sandpaper, and lube the bolts inside and the outside of the sleeve.

When all of this is done your brakes should work great until they get dirty again.

Thanks for the info. :)

Didn't realize front brake problems occured with earlier trucks also. :eek:

Had not owned a Dodge truck before this one. Use to be Ford gasser owner. Never had problems with Ford brakes.

Maybe Ford should supply brakes for Dodge trucks.

:D

"Love the CTD :D . . . not sure about what its attached to" :(

the 2000 & up is a Ford system---the early ones were GM. When lubeing the caliper sliders & pins be sure to use a caliper type grease or silicone---not chassis grease. ---Sam

Sam,

Picked up Autozone carbon metallic perf. friction pads today along with superfine emery cloth and silicone brake lubricant (consistency of jelly). Will use file and/or coarser sand paper first as necessary. Plan on doing the job tomorrow.

JB, use a file only on the caliper sliding surfaces and the corresponding surfaces on the knuckles. The file layed across the entire surface will make sure the surface stays flat. Flatness of that surface is very important. You do not need to get all of the surface imperfections out and there will be a lot of them, just knock the high spots off and make them smooth. If you get 50% of the area flat and smooth that will be enough. Use the paper to polish the pin sleeves.
