I've been hearing a whining noise coming from the front wheels when I back up. Doesn't happen all the time but I figure it shouldn't happen at all. Currently have a little over 52,000 miles.

Replaced the pads 1st at 22,600, then 2nd time at 38,755. I rarely pull a trailer that weighs 2 tons. I'm usually empty.

If I wasn't hearing the whining, squealing noise for a few seconds when backing up, I would probably think the brakes are fine. But this noise is telling me somethings not right!!!

Anyone have any experience with the "*&$#%!!!":)-{}) front brakes on a 00 2500?

Well i hope this helps,

first make sure the rears are ok and adjusted and work. If just the fronts are doin all the stoppin they will wear much faster. softer shoes on the rears help too. as for the front noise, did you resurface the rotors? ever? i know its a pain but it helps break the glaze in the metal. some times you can use a rough grit sand but it doesnt last long. also make sure the calipers are free... .

the pins must be clean and lubed and the caliper must slide in the knuckle. NO binding.

also note some pads tend to make more"squeeks"than others, compounds/hardness etc.

Hope its not a wear sensor scraping yet. also if it is. . you put the sensor pads on backwards since it scrapes or squeels only when you back up.

p. s. dont forget the hoses . ;)

front brakes

My truck had the same problem. I finally figured out that the calipers were too tight in the saddle that they set in. I pulled the calipers; filed them where the slide them back and forth. and re-installed them. that took care of it. I filed the caliper only as it would be easiest to replace if that did not work.
