I'm looking at a 2000 truck with a 6 speed. I know they had the smaller clutch, but other than that are they equal to the later models? I'm not looking to make a 500 horse machine, just a good truck with a fewmods to pull heavy and have a little fun with.

I have a 2000 6speed. It has the same size flywheel/clutch (12"), and same size input shaft (1-1/4"), as the 5 speed trucks do. Mine does not have the 53 block. The transmission has been reliable and shifts well. The 2001's and after have the larger 13" flywheel/clutch, and 1-3/8 input shaft in the transmission. Southbend has a 13" flywheel/clutch upgrade, so about the only thing you need to be aware of is the shaft may not be as strong. I dont think its a big deal as long as you arent shockloading the drivetrain.

On early durability testing(D/C) the input shafts were breaking while towing 20k at the 100k mark... ... .....

Also, if you didn't know, the 99 & 00 6 speeds were the SO engine, not the HO engine, so the bombing recipe will be a little different.

I have a 2000 6spd it is really better to add mods than the H. O so I've been told they say the HO does'nt like timeing as much and run a higher ex temp the only difference other tan the input shaft and clutch are the syncros in the transmission the are discont for the 99-00 so if you have to change them you have to change all the gears they mate to I'm going through that right now other than that the trannys are the same hope this helps
