Hey guys, need a little help with a 2000, 3500,4x4 dually quad cab, about 130,000 miles. I've been fighting with steering lately, and figured I should check the lift pump pressure. I found that it would pressure up to around 12- 14 psi. So while I was under the hood I changed out the lift pump. After instillation, I bleed the system and all seemed well. However, after it sat awhile it became extremely difficult to start. Bleed the inj. pump, (plenty of fuel) but needed to crack the injectors to start it. I ran it for appox. 30 minutes and then shut it off. The truck started right up, but if it sits for 5 min, no start. The inj pump was a new design from O'Reily's. It seemed to build up good pressure but I didn't do a test. The truck seemed like the fuel was bleeding off. Ant ideas? The only good thing about all of this is I now get to use my brother in laws 03 Corvette Z06.

If you have to bleed it to get it started air is getting into system. You need to check connections at lift pump and any rubber hoses (mite have cracks in them). You mite want to check all your fuel connections including fuel filter.

I checked all hoses (replaced most), relief valve. Installed a new fuel filter, it starts when I bleed the injectors and runs great. However, it still bleeds off. Could the lift pump be letting air in and not showing any fuel leaking? I can't see what else could be leaking. Does the fuel pressure bleed off normally? Thanks

If you dont have one allready you need a fuel pressure guage to really see whats hapenening. If your running FP is at or above 20 it will do the same thing. Too much fuel pressure with pop a valve in the vp and will not put fuel to the injectors when trying to start, and by cracking the line the pressure is releived and it will start.



I discoevered this myself when I put a new lift pump in that was giving me 25 psi at the IP. It would start cold just fine. If I stopped for a few minutes, come back to it and try to start it wouldn,t. If I drained the pressure off from the fuel filter drain it would start right back up.



Just an option you may want to check.

Did you check the return line??? It can cause the same problem.
