Dodge dealer wants to rebuild trans. in shop for about $4,000 !! The band or strap is broken and due to warranty issues they will not replace the band only. I am ready

or willing to spend the $4-5,000 on a performance transmission but not on the same stock items that have begun to fail at 54,000 mi. I have pulled my new 3 horse slant w/ 12 living quarters trailer only twice. It is about a 14,000 lb. load so I was anticipating a trans. upgrade being needed, but just not quite so suddenly.

Question 1: Would driving the truck several hundred miles to a performance shop such as one of those I read about here be advisable with that 2nd. gear strap removed? ( I realize I am able to throttle back on RPM's at about 2700 and "catch" 2nd. gear )

Question 2: Does anyone know of local shops in Northern Virginia capable of getting my 3500 healthy?

Thanks for any and all suggestions, not going camping this labor day weekend.

I think you would be foolish to spend 4500 on a stock rebuilt trany. Go to ATS and get one completely redone with all the latest tricks and valve body for 2000. Add the torque converter if you can for another 1200 or so and you have a much better automatic transmission then Dodge ever dreamed of.

Did you have the transmission installed by one of their installers or can most shops perform the changeout?

Also does the PAC-BRAKE perform fine with that transmission?

I'm missing something here.

You have a 01 truck and it has no toys/mods, and they want you to pay them to fix a trans with a warantee?

If you ar over the mileage limit I understand.

you will do yourself a great favor to call DTT.

DTT transmission

Took everyones advice and installed the DTT. Great folks to work with. Almost a year later with a bigger and heavier trailer and this DTT takes it all!

Just installed transmission temp gauge for insurance.

I am with Fox. Something is not right. If band is broken and transmission under warranty (which should be at 54,000 miles) they will have to fix it for free, not a penny, nada, zippo, nicht, niente, zero, no $$.

Get the srvc mgr and "grind his" arse quite a bit.

If you want to get a new transmission, with unlimited HP and mileage warranty, there's only 1 place to go: Goerend Bros, I just had mine upgraded (this week) and I can't get over the fact that it's way too nice this way.

A complete transmission with converter will cost you around $ 3,000 $ 3,500 depending on few options.

Now, after you install it, you try your truck and you will say WOW, then WOW again, and you will say that for at least a week after, then you'll get used a little, and you will just say it once per day. This is guaranteed.

I think these people should be hired to build stock transmissions, that's the way they should work from start.....

Anyway, I would seriously push the warranty issue with dealer. It's your money and you paid for it.
