Hmm well I got me a puzzle here guys. My rear drum brakes constantly hang up on my. So At Coffee nite I broke 'em down and found ... well found a lot of dust. So cleaned everything up cleaned out the adjusters , force lubed all the cables (Not a hint of resistance) greased up the shoe landings and put it all back together.

The problem is this. They will drag really bad. Just like before, Bad to the point on level ground if you roll the truck a bit and toss it in nuetral it will come to a stop enough that you feel the weight transfer kinda stop. So they are dragging... ... AGAIN. If i set the parking brake in reverse and tap the service brakes they will apply fully.

Let out the Parking brake and give the service brakes a tap and roll the truck there is absolutly NO resistance whatso ever. :confused: in fact it will coast with no resistance. Tap the pedal again when the truck is rolling and they will hang and the truck will stop itself :confused: :{

I am thinking of teardown with a master spring kit and new wheel cylinders??

Do I need to go that far OR am I missing something like a new fluid flush/bleed and clean them up a bit again.

TMTT,

1. Make sure the e-brake is fully releasing every time

2. How's the fluid level? Overfull leaving some residual pressure (not common and usually shows up on disks first)

3. Were there any wear grooves on the backing plate?

I've never seen wheel cyls go bad and hold - usually they leak. Have you engaged the ABS lately or retracted the calipers lately? I've seen the ABS controllers fail causing pressure problems by not releasing pressure or being contaminated from a front wheel brake job...

3. Were there any wear grooves on the backing plate? No actually they were pretty smooth.

...

Hmmm Intresting point on the fronts. I have a set of new front pads coming for the truck on Monday. I was going to swap em out and bleed the brakes out via power vac bleeder getting the fluid nice and clean again Maybee I should go from there? No Abs issues that I have seen with the truck.
