have a few ? to ask! i have a chance to pick up some 01. 5-02 dana 80 rear ends! and my question is what all needs to be changed to do this? im assuming new master cylinder and maybe dif. brake lines? im getting one for my 99 2500 QC 4x4 CTD and one for my dads 98 2500 QC 4x4 CTD and my freinds 95 2500 ext cab 2wd! just would like to have some info on what would need to be changed! thanks Andy!

??

I am not familiar with the rear axles of the dodge rams and the variations. . however my 97 Dodge 2500 CTD has a dana 80 in it already. Don't they all come that way with the Cummins ?? And what is the advantage of the one which you mention above ??

BTW, I am looking for a LSD for my Dana 80, (3. 54). If one of those which you are replacing has an LSD which would bolt into my dana, I certainly would be interested !!

Disc brakes would be the difference... ... ...

The master needs to be changed if you want the pedal travel to be less. The piston in the new one is larger to handle the extra fluid needed for the rears. The resevoir is also much larger as the pads wear down.

The larger master is not just a bolt up. At least on my 01 it wasn't. There is a spacer that holds it off and the hole it it needs to be reamed or a new one bought. The arm coming out of the hydro boost was also too long. I had to cut it shorter and grind the end round. Thankfully I had the 02 sitting there to take measurements off of.

The brake lines are totally different as well as the parking brake adjuster and cables. I had to replace the parking cables all the way to under the drivers door where there is a connector. The brake lines had to be replace from the frame to the axle and then both wheels.

As far a the proportioning valve, because of the weight of my truck with the utility bed I didn't worry about. Next to impossible with all that weight to lock em up. In an empty 2500 it could become a problem and have to be addressed.

Because of my custom gear (3:73) it was easier for me to torch off the existing flanges on the axles and well on some custom mades when I converted. Hopefully your getting all the brake parts with the axles or your cash layout will get large, a lot of the parts are DC only.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions,

Garrett

u have a 5spd that is y u have a dana 80 i think all manuals came with a 80. and auto's came with dana 70! y am i doing this because its a 80 better than a 70, disk brakes, brand new and cheap! 80 can take more punishment! if i ever break a dana 80 i would have to had some serious hp and tq to do that!:D
