ok guys im wondering if it would be worth it. I have thought about doing the rear upgrade with the larger plunger but if the discs give a larger inprovement then i would consider doing that.

you have to have the whole axle because the mounts are different. A guy on another post ground off the mounts on his axle them manufactured mounts out of steel and welded them on the axle... . then all that was needed was to install the new dodge parts... .

For my 2001, I bought the EGR Brake conversion at http://www.egrbrakes.com/index-main.htm

I also got the Slotted front rotors and Carbon Kevlar Pads... This helps alot on stopping ability. The rear Conversion went very well adn I am pleased with it...

Heres the front slotted rotors and new pads... . Total for both front and rear was like $1000... . Might be different now... .

Mine are the stock 16's yes... the rim does clear

Here is the 16" rim on the BFG 285 tires I had awile back

The spring and lever is the parking brake. I push down on the foot brake to sqeeze the pads, then I push the parking brake, which in the pic, the lever, act like a geared press so it holds that pressure when you se the brake.

Eric - Are the rear pads the same as the front? How about the rear calipers?

I am considering the rear disc upgrade, but have two primary concerns:

1 With my 10000 pound load, will I actually improve the braking?

2 Other than the mounting brackets, are the calipers, pads, caliper bolts and related parts stock or must you use unique EGR parts for future repairs?

I really appreciate your post and photos.

Thanks,

Wayne

The Calipers are special with the lever action P-Brake..... I have had these on for I think 3 years now and not a ligk of trouble..... The Pads are regular Semi Metalic pads for a '78 Olds Toroando Front pads. So these pads made for the front of a heavy boat car, should be tough enough for the rear of a truck ... . Caliper bolts have been good as well...

The Braking did improve having disk versus drum. I know all big rigs have drum but they are trying to make disc the norm. later on..... Disc brakes are better so I'd say go ahead and do it. you don't have to adjust the brakes like a drum but like I said before, the only cons on this system is the P-brake holding power. I found out to maximize this is to pre-load the brake pads with the foot brake then apply the P-brake. This lets the disc to hold my truck itself on a 10% grade

That last picture of the caliper inside the rim is when I had 5000 miles on it and that was like 20K ago... .

Thanks for the response. Good to hear on the pads.

If EGR discontinued the calipers and/or the rotors, would you have to go back to the drums, or are the calipers and rotors available elsewhere?

Eric- Thanks. I emailed EGR with my question.

Vaughn – I will try to walk you to the conversion kit.

For the rear conversion, try this:

http://www.egrbrakes.com/index-main.htm

then click on:

What do we carry for your vehicle?

You should be at “Products we offer”,

Then click on “Dodge”,

.

Hmmm there's no "what do we carry for your vehicle" on the main page. If I go to "Dodge" and select "Ram 2500" it just lists the 3 levels of brake kits for all the years. Nothing at all about the disk brake conversion. I searched every link on the site for 15 minutes, not a word about it (except for the instructions).

The links you listed don't work (says Page cannot be displayed) so maybe something's fubared on my end  LOL

Thanks for the help anyway Reddog1 ;)

I am a little disappointed with EGR. I emailed EGR with my questions on 4/02/06. and have not had a reply. I bet it would not take them that long to charge my Visa account.

I wonder how long it would take them to respond if you had a problem?

Whenever I had a question with them I always called. Very freindly and helpful... .

The thing I did on the front was the slotted rotors and the Carbon Kevlar pads... . These have to be heat set when you initially put them on, then drive normally with sorta hard stops every once in a while, then go normal. These pads have less dusting, stop quicker, and last longer..... Should be fo $70 a set... .

Well looks like my computer at home is FUBAR'd for whatever reason . . . I get the page no problem at work, but at home I only get the listing of brake upgrades for some reason. I tried it again last night

Thanks for the internet clicking lesson :-laf
