I think I'm finally starting to feel the auto trans blues. I drove the truck yesterday and it ran perfectly. I get in it this morning (40 deg) and it wouldn't shift out of first, reverse worked normal. I drove it a couple of miles and it still wouldn't shift. I get back home and ran it through the gears and it started shifting but would wind up very high before shifts. Get to the store thinking that maybe it just needed to warm up and now I lost 1st. I can't even use the shifter to get it in 1st gear. Shifts normal otherwise and the torque converter doesn't seem to be slipping(other than starting off in 2nd). It has 148,000 miles on it and I did check the fluid and it looked good and was full. I serviced the transmission about 10,000 miles ago. Oh yeah, I checked for codes with my Superchips and there were none.

How bad is it?

Sounds to me like my problem a while ago, Governor solenoid and transducer. It is an easy fix and not too expensive, you have to drop the pan though. Mine wouldn't go into first and started in second gear. I believe that the PCM tells the governor when to shift so the rev is part of it not working. Mine went at only 58k.

That's what I am hoping it is. I guess I will get to spend some the kids Christmas on my trans. I really can't complain since this is the first thing I've had to do to the trans since I've had it. :D Thanks.

I have had the same thing... . It could also be the output shaft speed sensor. It's on the tailshaft of the transmission. Easy to get to, and replace.

Mine actually was sort of intermittant... where it would shift at 3300 or higher. (thank god for 4,000rpm valve springs!)

I was having similar problems. My truck stopped shifting from first to second. I had to rev it up in first and let off the pedal to shift. What was happening was the transmission was skipping 2nd and going into third. The second gear band broke. Soon after I could not get it into park. A part of the broken band was getting in the way. Ended up having to have it rebuilt.
