Have 2500 01 ram and passenger ball join sheared off sometime when using 4 wd to get out of soft soil. I put up on jack and tire flipped over - only thing holding it up was fwd joints and bottom ball joint. Any suggestions on what to replace with or just have the good honest shop I use replace it with dodge parts?

FWD axle is leaking fluid also. .

Moog ball joints are generally well thought of. A great place to order them is Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto.

I recently replaced all the ball joints on my truck with Moog parts and they appeared to be of high quality (and greaseable unlike the originals).

Best regards,

John L.

Thanks very much that is what the shop suggested and I am waiting to see if they have them. I also have to replace the intermediatary steering shaft. Any suggestions?

When you do this, change the inner and outer tie rods and get new wheel/hub bearings.

These parts are expensive, maybe $1000 all together for parts.

The ball joints are changeable, but depending on the conditions of the truck, you will most likely need to torch the remaning ball joints off to get the knuckle out of the way, then litterally beat the hub out of the knuckle with a 12lb hammer. You will destroy a 12pt 14mm socket in the process.

You will also need a large ball joint tool (giant C-Clamp), and about a 10' piece of pipe to put on the end of the clamp to tighten enough to get the ball joints out.

It is not hard work, but it takes some time, and you will need some large tools.
