I just got a 2001 Dodge and I keep getting P1689 P1688 P0216. I don't know where to go with it cause the truck runs fine when it is cold. But once it gets warm I lose my pedal. Think it's the ECM?
Thanks Nick

All those codes are injection pump codes, not lookin good I'm afraid. Do you know the history of your truck? How many miles, has the VP ever been replaced, and do you have a fuel pressure gauge to read lift pump fuel pressure, and if you do what is the pressure?

One thing you can do to try and verify a bad VP, when it starts acting up shut the truck off and take a big cup of cold water and trickle it on the injection pump ECM and see if the driveability issue goes away. If it does, you can bet it is in deed the VP.

also go to Blue chip diesel site read the trouble shooting. it has lts of good info and by the time you finish doing what it says you will have your answer.

Thanks man it has 240000mi on it what's weard about it is when you start it cold it's fine once it warms up u can here it sounds like it's missing and then won't rev above like 2500 rpm

Personally I would stay away from the hotrod pumps. Just make sure you buy a pump with new electronics and you should be good to go. The stock replacement AirDogs have been far from reliable, I would either check out the higher end Air Dogs or FASS stock replacement and relocate it to the frame.

Hello
When I lost my VP44 I did a lot of research before I purchased a replacement. I went with the Blue Chip pump. The owner of Blue Chip is Gruff and Terse But he knows his pumps. I have no reservations about my purchase from Blue Chip.

Got mine from www.mwfi.com

They have one of the best core policy plus a good price. Also i did not remove the three rear injertor lines. You can just push them against the block to slide the pump out. Made my own gear puller out of a piece of angle iron. Snoking

P1688 - INTERNAL FUEL INJECTION PUMP CONTROLLER FAILURE
P1689 - No Communication Between ECM and Injection Pump Module Data link
P0216 - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction

The injection pump failing would be the likeliest guess!

It's always possible low lift pump pressure (clogged fuel filter, bad pump, etc.) might cause the problems, or a wiring problems or a bad ECM, but odds are you need a new VP.
