Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) '01 HO, 2WD - Whats it worth?

Hey all,



Considering selling my 12V for an HO-6spd ('01, '02..... or maybe an '03). I found an early '01 with 21k miles (No 4 wheel disc brakes) at a local dealer, it is the SLT laramie, quad cab long box, 2WD. I was unable to tell which rear axle ratio it had but think it was the 3. 5's. It does not have keyless remote, compass/temp or power seat. The original owner DID NOT order it with the trailer tow pkg, but did order it with the camper pkg as he hauled a camper. He also had air bags installed which I am not very familiar with. The front shocks are stock and in addition to the air bags, there are Rancho 9000's on the rear, it had a very FIRM ride, I don't know what the air bags were pumped upto or what the shocks were set at. It also has a spray in bed liner, am/fm cassete (no CD).



I drove it and liked it, then I jumped in a new '03 and drove it for comparison and I LOVED the '03 6spd. They are asking 29k for the '01 which I think is a bit high, they have been sitting on this truck for about 3 weeks and the salesman said it was going to the auction this week, which makes me think it could be bought at a good price.



SO - What is a GOOD price for this vehicle? Will I be disapointed I didn't buy an '03 (Even though I can't really afford it). The main reason for upgrading from the 12V is to give me more GCVWR for hauling a heavier 5th wheel which we plan to purchase. The 12V has a GCVWR of 16K and the '01 6spd 20K. I think I could be into the '01 fairly reasonable, but don't want to be dispointed I just didn't hold out for another couple of years and buy a used '03.



Are their any potential problems to be aware of on the early '01 HO 6spd's, is the later '01/'02 HO better besides the 4 wheel disc brakes? I thought I read somewhere that the later '01's went to a different turbo housing... . maybe that only affected non HO's?



Would like your comments/feedback/suggestions.

Terry, I have a 01 DEE ETH. One of the biggest problems is with the lift pump. With that going it could also take out the injection pump. Just get the fuel pressure checked and if you buy it get a fuel pressure gauge ASAP. Eric

Before leaving town, he brought me his 2001. 5/3500 QC ETH/DEE to sell... ... ... ... . You can read about it in the TDR classifieds.

Over a year ago I got my 2001. 5 Fully loaded x cab HO 4x4 6 spd for 27,000. He is way off on his price in my opinion. You should get a 4x4 fully loaded for that price. Just my . 02. Just did quick search on trader online and found a bunch of fully loaded trucks for under 29k.

this has a lot to do with local markets. But here that truck would barely get 16-18k at auction. Maybe you'd see it for 20k at a lot. The miles are good, but no one wants 2wd around here. Let me check the cascade auction site and i could give you more of a local value. My guess is no more then 20k. I'll check back in a few.

that was fast... I found an '01 4wd with everything but leather that sold for 19k back in june in Cascade (closest i could find). It did have 85k miles on it though, but that won't knock off more than a thousand or 2. So like i thought, 29k is absolutly ridiculous.



Becareful with used trucks, dealers can really make a fortune on them.

I agree that the price you spoke of is way too high. I don't know where you are in Washington, but it sounds like you may be going to the dealer at Vancouver. They amaze me with their positive thinking on price. Right now I'm sure that any number of 2wd trucks such as you'e described can be had for under $22,000, but not in a southern Washington dealer lot.



Though mine is a 2500 it's a late one with rear discs and I bought it with 15,000 miles and every single option except cab clearance lights but including leather and the plow package for over two thousand less than your price almost a year ago in Texas. I've got the original window sticker showing a $42,500+ price.



By the way, if you plan to tow anything heavy I think that you might very much regret not having the four wheel disc brakes. They're a big improvement all the time, but especially when heavy.

KRS is right, 4 wheel discs is a HUGE help with a load. Plus its amazing what they do for the everyday braking. For a large pickup they really do stop well.
