Was just wondering if anyone else has had their pwr steering quit when you first start the truck. Comes back after a couple of minutes of running.

You need to check the fluid level first in the pump and then I would be looking at the pump for output pressure. How many miles on the rascal

I remember reading a thread quite a while ago where someone was having a similar problem. What they found was that there is a screen type filter somewhere in the pump and it was blocked full of crap. Dealer wanted him to buy a new pump. He figured he had nothing to lose at that point so tore into it and found the said screen. Cleaned out the junk and worked fine thereafter.

Do a search and you will find that this happended to quite a few people with varying results. It happened to me and stopped once I replaced the fluid with Synthetic. Thankfully my only problem was a fluid change. I went with Royal Purple but I am sure other synthetics work.

This is my dads truck and the first time it happened he had 20K on the truck,(he really drives the wheels off this thing ) I checked everything out and ended up not finding anything that stood out. I changed out the pump and he left for Arizona. Thought everything was good but it did it on him once down there. Of course it all works fine now, but still makes you wonder. The truck sits alot, was wondering if it air locked or kinda lost its prime?

Happened to me a couple of years ago in the winter-temps outside approx 35-40 degrees-NM. Happened just once. Has never happened since. I waited for it to happen again so I could investigate--no problems since then.
