 This is my first time at this site. I came here because I have had nothing but problems w/ my 01 . I have a 2001 Dodge Diesel 2500 w/ automatic transmission. It has never towed anything ( it did not come with the tow package ). My truck has 107,000 miles on it, so it is just over the warranty. We let her her get pretty low on fuel, but she was running just fine. We filled her up and about 20 miles later she wouldn't go any further. She starts sometimes but only intermittedly. They say its the injection pump. $3000. 00 !!!!!!!!! :--) A little history on her... .....

29,908 miles - rebuilt the engine

35,842 fuel injector leaking

37,267 loose wiring harness

39,742 replaced transfer pump

68,336 replaced PCM

74,075 torque converter locking up prematurely

80,369 transmission overhauled & new torque converter

80,369 replaced lift pump

81,329 replaced transfer pump

82,684 replaced fuel sending unit

82,684 replaced thermostat

94,492 replaced breather catch bottle

94,492 replaced serp. belt

96,920 replaced front crank seal

97,458 #2 fuel line & injector leaking

99,246 replaced throttle position sensor

106,312 found trans needed overhaul again ( it was a short in wiring)

107,000 NEEDS NEW FUEL INJECTION PUMP $$ 3000. 00 !!!!!!!! :-{}

I've just about had it!!!!!! Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know your skill level but I am quite SURE you can get your pump bought and installed for WAY less than 3000. If you can do it your self you can do it for about 1k or so. Let me know if you need more info. Might help if you filled in your profile so we know where you are located.

Would I be able to do that myself? How much do you think it might cost?

No you can not rebuild a vp44 at home. It takes a very expensive test bench. There are still Bosche repair shops not equipped tpo do these pumps Pm me I may be able to help :)

If you can't find joe donnely, contact Larence or Keith at Diesel Dynamics in Las Vegas, they'll either fix it for you or steer you in the right direction. They might have a rebuilt one on hand. . It might be something else, fuel filter, or another lift pump... If you plan on keeping truck, invest in a fuel pressure gauge, and you can tell if the lift pump fails before you toast an injection pump. Larence or Keith can explain all this to you... P. S. Larence lives in Pahrump. .
