Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 01 looses power while crusing, no load

With a load the engine pulls great. No load and crusing it tries to stall out and loose power. Codes that pop up are PCU, P 1693, ECU, and P 0576. Local shop here in Norman Ok is trying to tell me fuel MALF. ??

When running without a load, does the engine loose power and drop to idle or die out completely?

It doesn't die or go to idle, just looses power and speed.

Sounds like dead pedal (VP44), like MChildress suggested, check your LP pressure. Any chance you got some bad fuel? Is it starting pretty good?

P0576 = Cruise Control Related Malfunction



The description of simptoms sure does sound like it may be APPS related.



A verification of fuel pressure up to the VP-44 would be a worth while check to make sure the IP or LP is not and issue.

I thought that as well, but his description of rpms not dropping, just loosing power sent me towards fuel system. My (limited) experience with APPS has always been engine dropping to idle, and no response. An APPS replacement is certainly, much cheaper!

Its not the APPS if it works correctly under a load at the same speed and\or rpm.



Every one of these problems has always been the VP going. Drive it hard enough and you can usually get the P0216 code to pop up.
