Anyone have any experience with different muffler locations for a 01 HO Quad Cab Long Bed DRW and it effects on improving drone.

My friend and I have his Banks (New) muffler installed just under the front passenger seat. He likes it there and says it will lessen the drone. :rolleyes:

I say it should be installed towards the rear, more in the stock location for less drone. :-{}

Thoughts?

Thanks Mac:cool:

Mine is a 41 inch 4 inch Donaldson mounted behind the transmission support mount. I do not get any drone out of my system;)

Food for thought.

Water Heater:rolleyes: Hmmmm. Little copper tubing wrapped around it with and inlet and outlet and I have a portable shower for camping. Sounds good to me:p

3 Cyl Idle?

How is this done? Whats more, Why? I,ve seen this mentioned on a few threads and wonder what this is about.

In past threads about exhaust drone, a number of people have said to mount the muffler as far forward as possible to reduce or eliminate drone. I can't add to this from personal experience as I've still got a stock exhaust but with just the resonator in place, the muffler has been removed. Still waiting for warmer weather (and less snow) before installing my new exhaust.

I mounted my muffler just below and behind my dodgezilla turbo. She sits right up next to the block. It really reduces the amount of noise coming out of the exhaust, but it does seem to whistle alot more:-laf :-laf

It was rather pricey :eek: and they called it a "B2" ;)

Seriously though, when I was running a single turbo and 4" exhaust with no muffler, it was very load and sounded great. However, on long trips it got old quick. I installed a donaldson short muffler (4" flowthru, about 19" long) that eliminated the drone completely. It was in the stock location.
