Greatest Website for info...

Owners Manual

I've been "monitoring the mail" for some time now on this site. Definately an abundance of very useful information.

I thought I ran across the breakdown between 01 and 01. 5 model year designations once, but now cannot re-locate it. Old age does strange things to the mind! Can anyone help me out, finding the information formost, and secondary with the strange mind tricks? LOL

Welcome aboard donyo

From what I understand the 01 will have drum breaks in the rear

and the 01. 5 will have disk breaks in the rear

Good Luck

Cliff

I had an 01 and my brother had an 01. 5 and the 01. 5 having disc brakes in the rear was the only difference we could find.

Along with having rear discs, the '01. 5 also doesn't have the plastic trim on the tailgate. I think there are a few other subtle differences with the interior trim too. I think the '01 is closer to the '00 than it is to the '01. 5.

New for 2001

New exterior colors: Amber Fire Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic

Ram trucks built from January 1, 2000 to July 1, 2000 are referred to as 2001 models.

The early 2001 models have drum brakes in the rear.

Ram trucks built from July 1, 2000 to July 2001 are referred to as 2001. 5 models by Ram owners (DC still calls them 2001 models). Most 2001. 5 models differ from 2001 models by:

Added - disk brakes in the rear

Deleted - Vanity mirror lights.

Deleted - Rear cup holders were deleted.

Deleted - Insulation under the hood on diesel models.

Deleted - Front and Rear grab handles on passenger side.

Deleted - SLT tailgate protector

Deleted - Amber Fire Pearcoat paint

Deleted - plastic rear wheel liners

Deleted - self-Dimming rear view mirror

Silver radio antenna (was painted black in previous models)

Cowl rubber seal size reduced by 1/2

Phase out of Cab Clearance lights on 2500's.

One less leaf spring

Then there are the strange hybrids like mine, made in Saltillo in Dec. of 2000. Has the r/w discs but also has black antenna, r/w liners, underhood insulation and the rarest variant the 125 rpm gradient markings on the tachometer!;) Custom made by the gnomes of DC. :D

Mine was assembled in St. Louis and it has:

Disk brakes in the rear

No Vanity mirror lights.

Rear cup holders are still in place.

Insulation under the hood is still in place.

Front and Rear grab handles on passenger side are still in place.

No SLT tailgate protector

Plastic rear wheel liners are still in place.

Self-Dimming rear view mirror was installed as an option.

So maybe I have a 2001. 25 or some strange hybrid. My previous truck was 2000 5. 9L V8 (gas) and the wife really misses the lighted vanity mirror :) .

I will agree that some of the 2001. 5's have some variations, mine has disk brakes, underhood insulation, plastic wheel liners and a black antenna, and a full size rubber cowl seal, but i did have to add the rear cup holder and the SLT tailgate trim pieces myself, and i only have a front passenger handle. Mine was also made in St. louis.

DC had trouble making their MPG numbers for 2000 so they cut the model year short and started calling them 2001's halfway through the year. So the early ones should be the same as or nearly the same as the 2000's. There were a great number of people disappointed when their "2001" truck didn't come from the factory with the advertised rear disc brakes.

I don't know what they did in 2001 to get their MPG numbers up, especially since it became a long model year for the Ram. Maybe the Jeep Liberty increased the numbers.

Overfueled,

Mine was built in 10/00 also. It would appear that the DC assembly plants have some freedom when assembling a new model year to use parts from the previous model year. Probably trying to use up "excess inventory".

, but i did have to add the SLT tailgate trim pieces myself,

What did that cost you? I want that added to my 2002 but mine is a 3500 and I understand you have to do a cut-out for the lights on the tailgate???

Pit Bull:

The side trim I had the dealer install so I could have it covered under my warranty and so it got on straight the first time. I just had the 2001. 5 trim installed, that is the trim is only down the side of the cab. 2000’s & 2001’s originally had trim down the sides of the bed and duel wheel finders also, it looks good and I like the idea of the plastic finder being protected but I wanted my truck to look current not like a older version, plus I am sure that would have added 300. 00 to the price tag at the stealer. I did do the tailgate trim myself it was like $100. 00 I think from the stealer and yes ur right the trim comes with no holes to mount ur tailgate lights, all I did was measure the distance from the tailgate edge to the first screw hole in the tailgate and then marked the place where I need to cut the trim for the wiring, drilled the one hole and stuck the trim on with that one hole predrilled you can just use the light bracket itself as a guide from that point forward for the other screws. Then I just drilled the hole for the wire where I had it marked and that was it! By the way be sure to clean ur tailgate with rubbing alcohol first to insure it’s clean.

Mine was built 11/00 and it has everything on it except the tailgate trim and vanity mirror light. Also has disc brakes. Maybe the cut off date for deleted items was actually determined by when the inventory ran out, would explain the hybrid models.
