Hi folks, Im thinking of buying a friend of mines 05' CTD this weekend.

I have owned two Gen2's sinse 02' & love these trucks !

A quick question for you guys.

1: Will my Dana 70 rear & 60 front from my wrecked 02' bolt into the 3rd Gen ?

Reason I ask is 410's in the 02' Diffs & 373 in the 05.

Also I have less miles & Mag Hi Tech covers on both of them also.

Plus I feel the 60 is stronger than the 9. 5 too.

New to this 3rd Gen stuff !

Thanks in advance---Proflow

Drive the third generation truck and then you can decide if you want to go back to the lousy brakes on the second generation truck. The AAM axles are also easier to work on than the Dana's.

If you're really bent on re-using your axles, I would find another second generation truck.

My rear is a disc brake in the 02'.

I understand the front is better on the AAM, but it will swap to the Dana.

I could also just sell the Dana diffs & swap gears & buy covers w/the money.

I just thought the Dana front was probably a better piece than the 9. 5

Thanks for the reply---Proflow

I know they can fit, I have a friend who did it BUT all the control arms track bar, I believe steering and drivelines were custom made. Also the rear spring perches are 3" further out on each side on the AAM. Actually my friend did the the opposite and put 3rd gen axles under his 01 but same basic changes.

OK, thank you.

That was the answer I was looking for.

If I have to cut & weld mounts & perches its not worth it to me. Mostly because I want to sell one set of Diffs.

Ill just swap out the gears.

Will I need a different carrier for the rear when going to a deeper gear ? 410 or deeper.

Probably next deeper, 456 ? Who has a 456 for the AAM ? Randy's Ring & Pinion ?

Most are 3 or 4 series carriers

I'll check their website.

Thanks guys---Proflow

I 99% sure you can do 4. 56 with the same carrier, Ive been looking into doing gears in mine since I have 3. 73's right now. Everything I researched pointed towards staying with AAM parts, for parts and install with master kits seem to run about $800 per axle around here. Out of curiosity why would you want 4. 56? Awesome low end but depending on tire size you freeway driving would be horrible. Im running 37" tires and with 4. 10's It will put me around 2000 @ 73mph so even with 37's I wouldnt suggest running 4. 56 unless you tow heavy alot. Just curious

I just got off chat w/Randys Ring & Pinion in Everett. here is the e-mail I just got from them. 456 gears & set-up kits, some options for the front.

They forgot to price the front gears, but probably close to the rear $ I would guess.

I have 35's on it now & am going to put my 37's from my other truck on it after gear swap.

If the 456's are too deep (I do tow 17k) then I'll proably try & find someone local who may want to swap me diffs.

How about the carrier from a Power Wagon in the front ? Anyone have info ?

Your right, the carrier is interchangable. No need to change the front or rear if dont want to.
