Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 02 Heater Grids on to long?

I went outside to start the truck this morning (it sits most of the time). Its 70 deg out, I turn the key to on and the wait to start takes at least 30 seconds to go out.



My 98 used to cycle real fast when it was 70. did they change the amount of time on the 02's or do I have a problem?

I noticed the change on my '02 from my '99 also. The grids cycle on a restart even when the engine is warm, when they didn't on the '99. Is this normal, or do I have a problem somewhere?

I also notice for around a minute plus after starting it, the Volt meter stays low, indicating the heaters are still on.



If your seeing it also, I guess DC did it to clean up the air more.

Without the block heater plugged in, outside temp around 30 to 40 degrees, the longest the wait to start engine light is on, is 15 seconds. The volt meter will cycle as the heater cycles, untill enough heat is present for it not to. With the engine warm, either from running it, or the outside temp is 70 as first mentioned, the wait to start light should only be on a few seconds. Maybe 3 to 8 seconds.

If my truck has set for several hours ( when i'm at work) and it is 70 deg out my light go off almost immediately. maybe there was a change between 01 and 02. Even in the winter if my truck has run for a while and then set they will only come on for aprox 10 seconds.

My WTS light doesn't stay on more than a few seconds when the engine is warm, but the grids cycle for a long time at idle, or until I hit 18mph. This happens even if I just shut it off for a few minutes.
