Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Dead lift pump

Hi all,

I am a new poster, but not new to the forum. The wife and I just bought an 02 2500 HO 6spd w/60,000mi.

The test drive was great, but when I took physical ownership, the check engine light came on.

When I asked what the code was, the dealer said it was a "low voltage" code and that it righted itself. They checked the battery and the charging system ok. The truck runs great.

Any suggestions on what this could be and what I should be watching/checking for?

Thanks,

Chris

I purchased my 02 about 2 weeks ago.

I checked for codes and checked the fuel pressure, along with everything else you need to check when purchasing a used vehicle. The main thing I would be watching is your fuel pressure so that you can keep an eye on the Lift Pump. Do a search re: Lift Pumps and read all about it. Don't get yourself too worked up though, the older the model year the more problems owners seem to have with the LP. I don't read many posts regarding 02's having problems with the LP. But this could be due to the higher mileage of older model trucks.

These are great trucks, congrats!

Chris, welcome to the tdr :)

cycle the ingnition key 3 time without actually starting the truck and the codes will come up in the odometer.

right the codes down and report back

If you don't have a F/P Gauge, you best get one and keep an eye on it.

I am on my 3rd L/P, and at 49000 miles I may be needing the 4th one. :(

In all reality we are having a fairly high failure rate on the 02 HO's

injection pumps. I have had them fail under 30k. The lift pumps seem to have slowed down some. Keep an eye on your fuel pressure, change the filter on a regular basis and try a little lube additive. It's all you can do.

The error codes are:

P0122 = Throttle position sensor voltage low

P1693 = ???

The dealer is fixing the throttle position sensor this week. What is the other code?

While driving today, twice I lost all power at speeds >35mph. There was absolutely no response from the pedal. When the clutch was depressed, then engaged, power came back as normal. Is this from the TPS?

Thanks again for the info!!
