I own a 99' 3500 and want to replace the factory wheels with ones from a 02' 3500 Dually so I can safely run 23585R16's. Does anyone know where I can get these from? I called southwestwheel.com and they told me they were all the same. I do not believe them because I have a friend who has a 02' 3500 and his door sticker says 235's and mine says 215's. Any help locating them would be appreciated.

DN,

That is not what I heave read on these forums. It seems most people believe the 2001-2002 3500's have a larger offset making it possible to run thwe 235's. I have an old set of 235's on now and they have polished the insides of the tires because they touch when pulling heavy. They are inflated to max psi as well.

I just need to locate a source for the newer wheels.

PR, I have run through 3 sets of 235's after I wore out my 215's. I am getting between 55k and 65K per set. I run 75# rear and 80# front. I rotate about every 10K and I have never seen signs of them rubbing. I have run 2 sets of Kumho's and 1 set of Firestones. I haul 2 big round bales of hay (@3200#) with my DewEze bale bed (2400#) or 425 gallons of water on my skid unit (@3600# with water) for fighting grass fires. I can't imagine loading any heavier. I would be curious to see if we have different offsets. Jeff

JV,

Look at the inside of your wheels. Mine are polished from the occasional times they rub. Also, keep in mind that if a rock gets in between them it can also cause a blow out. My understanding is that I need at least 1 inch. I have about 1/2 of an inch.

PR, checked mine tonight when I got home and it is a good 3/4". I will look at it again in the morning and next time I rotate. I did have a stick get in between once and it cut my sidewall but I don't think even an inch would have helped there. We have a lot of roads that they used reclaimed railroad bed rock and haven't had a problem with that. It is big sharp rock. Do what you are comfortable with. Just letting you know from my experience. Good luck, Jeff

I also have a 99 3500 and put 235's on it with the stock wheels. Never a problem at all. I believe the 235's were an option then, and the 215's were standard. Pleanty of clearance between the tires.
