I just purchased an 02, and I plan on adding a Drag Comp or some thing close. I have read before that the turbo is not the greatest on these. I have a line on an HX-35, and a 14cm wastegated housing that's been modded for a 4" outlet (hx-40 style). Would this be a worth while up-grade (cheap) or should I save my $ and go with a totally new turbo???

actually the hx35 is a pretty good little turbo... . just small. you'll get it hot with the comp and will want a 14cm housing for sure. but, after your comp your going to want injectors and so on... ... i went with an htb2/12 which was really nice with a similar computer as the comp and 80 horse injectors. it had just a little lag. those three upgrades made my truck a beast. there is an htbg turbo out now that i think would be an awesome little unit until you go for injectors and even then the htbg would be easily upgradable as you add power.

but to answer your question, "is it worth it for the modded hx35?" i say no. you're going to love that 02 and you're not likely to stop at a drag comp. get a set up that can grow with you. the hx35, even modded, will limit you and you'll be replacing it eventually.

keep researching, there's a ton of info out there. i went the ht turbo route and would do it again... . although i'd start with the htbg as lag is something that annoys the h3ll out of me.

good luck, jeff

If you could get it cheap i would ship it off to High Tech turbo and upgrade it to a 35/40 and run a 14cm wastegated housing.

or buy a Super Stock 62 from High Tech, they spool faster than a HX40 and will cool a lot better as well. The dodgezilla might be an option or like Olee said. :)
