Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Transmission Swap???

A few weeks ago while merging onto the freeway I shifted to 6th and accelerated to merge into traffic I reached about 60mph. I let off the pedal and the truck missed and had almost like a dead pedal. A few days ago the same thing happened to me both times at highway speed while passing a vehicle. I pulled over and called my diesel shop. They suspect the APPS is going out. I replaced the APPS about two months ago but I couldn't set the resistance. He also said they see a handful of bad APPS's and the fact I couldn't set the resistance isn't a good sign. I tried for hours trying to get it within the range but I couldn't get it. I bought it from Timbo so I called him. He said to turn the star wheel until there is no play in the pedal and not worry about the resistance because he tests all his units before he sends them out. I did that and all seemed fine. There are no codes but the mechanic said that's not uncommon. He had me disconnect my Edge comp to rule that out and it still did. I can make the truck do it every time at highway speed in 6th gear. My gauges always read good and the fuel pressure stays at 17psi. Any ideas on what the issue is? Thanks a lot.

The only time I can get it to miss is in 6th. I read on Blue Chip diesels site if a miss or dead pedal condition is encountered around 65-70MPH its the APPS.

I don't have either. I have an appointment on Tuesday to have the shop look at it. Its got me puzzled as to what it could be.

Well it turns out its the APPS that I replaced back in October. I bought it from Timbo after seeing all the great things on here about him. They tested it and it was bad. The shop put a new one on and the miss is gone.

Same thing happened to my APPS

I bought a new apps from NAPA about a year ago. After about 3 months , I started to get this random miss at 60-70 mph. Only happened after driving for about 1 hour so. Keep getting worse , so I started replacing sensors, and even the vp44 . It never would set any codes. My vp44 was 5 yrs old, but was not the problem, although I think it was getting a little week, because the truck ran much stronger after replacing it. I checked the apps resistance and it was fine to. Finally on my last nerve and 6 months of fighting this problem, I put another apps on the truck. NO more problems.
