Bad way to learn the fuel level gauge lies! On a nice sunny 106 dergee day.

It must have been totally out because I put 34 gallons in it.

It did throw a 0216 and a 1693 that I cleared with the smarty.

I have had a couple dead pedals before the rapter install does this mean I am running on borrowed time? Or are the codes normal when it runs dry?

The code did clear and has not returned after driving the truck again.

My goal is to make this VP last as long as I can. Truck only has 81k but being exposed to low fuel pressure could be a huge factor. My old 2000 model went fast after the lift pump died but I changed the lift pump out on the 2002 before it went bad. Just wonder what updated parts the newer VP has if any at all.

A 0216 and 1693 at the same time is usually not a good sign for the VP-44.

Did it completly quit running?

For whatever reason the 2002's VP-44 had a tendency to die around 60-70k miles, something to do with a "fix " for short lived VP-44's that Cummins/Bosch was trying that did not work out very well. I agree 0216 and 1693 are normally a sign of "the end is near"

Yes when it ran out off fuel it stopped running.

Guess I better start saving up. Going to look really hard at a blue chip VP.

Oh it is gone now! Dead pedal everytime it runs.
Looses speed and lugs up hills. I had to keep the RPM's up and shut off the OD to make it up the steep side.
The trans was always in the wrong gear and hunting except on the flat open road.

I cleared codes everytime I shut it down and they came right back. Never did get any check engine lights.

Added to the 0216 and 1693 was a 0206.

What part of the pump does the 0206 refer to?

P0206 is injector circuit code. Since there are no injector circuits the ECU is seeing problems with #6 or others not providing enough power.

Either way the VP is toast.

After looking at the Blue Chip web page I am thinking about doing the install of the VP myself with the supplied instructions.

What tools other than the puller and my normal set should I have ready to go?

If you are going to do the R & R yourself I strongly recommend you go to this link and watch all of Diesel Dans’ videos. I did this about a year ago on my 99. It wasn’t terribly difficult.

Good luck
