Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 02DodgeDieselCummingsnewliftpumpnotwork

I am very new at this computer and so please be patient with me on all this. I appreciate any help that I can get on my 2002 Automatic Dodge Diesel Cummings 2002 truck. I got a new lift pump on it(2nd one I've just put on it. I hit the 30second prestart and when it starts, you can riv it up right then-But--then it will drop down to about 1800RPMS and start missing... What does anyone think the problem is here... Appreciate any help-- I was going to try and go to your chat room--but didn't know how to.....

Cycle the key 3 times and write down the codes that display on the odometer.



Turn the key to on and dont start it, turn it off-on-off-on and they should pop up.

First, it is a Cummins, not Cummings. Second, where are you located? Sounds like you might be sucking air into the fuel system.

Like John said get the codes out of it there should be from 1 to 3 displayed be patient they roll through. replacement Lift pumps have been bad right out of the box.

If your still under warrantee the dealer will replace the vp44 and also install a in tank transfer pump. If not the dealer will charge about 2500-3000 dollars to fix it. You can buy a good quality rebuilt( all replacements are rebuilt) for 1100 - 1800 dollars and expect to pay 3to 4 hrs labor if you have a independent shop to install it. There might be a TDR member close to you who would help you install it youself if needed... Good Luck!

There are many TDR members that are "supporting vendors". Do a search and decide for yourself who would be the best to buy frome. You should be able to get a rebuild vp44 well under 1400$, the dealer usually wants 2500+ for them!!

Advance Diesel Technology [Doug] has the reman. pumps from Industrial Injection for $1100. + some change. I like Industrials pumps..... 2 year warranty with them & I have had no problems at all. He can usually price match competitors too. Give Doug a call @ 304-864-3399 & tell him that Jamie said to call. He is a good guy to deal with.

That being said I have Industrial Injection HR pump in my truck wire tapped the day I put it in No lope at idle and no problems at all 2 years now.
