Does anyone know if the AAM specs posted last year( oil fill level) for the 03 apply to the 04? I assume they do but would like to know for sure. Thanks!

SAME

They just got tired of hearing they come low on oil so they put a

fill line into the cast. ;)

And for those who think the axle tube bearings arent getting

lubed by the gear oil b/c it is below the tubes. When you drive,

the gears displace the oil when spinning thus raising the oil

level... something to think about...

Mmmm. . I wonder how spinning gears displace oil volume? I would think the ring gear would carry oil up on its top side, thus lowering the oil level while spinning.

Perhaps it has something to do with general relativety? As the speed of the ring gear approaches the speed of light, its mass and length increase. ;)

Notice what time i posted that, :D

After thinking of it that way, i can see how the gears would

attract and fling the lube, lowering the level. Perhaps:D - our

rear axel tubes are splash lubed like a low end Briggs and

Stratton engine. :p

Actually I don't think the wheels bearings are supposed to be continuously immersed in oil. When they are new (or replaced) they are packed with grease. Then as we drive oil is moved down the tubes by centrifugal force while making turns. It doesn't take much oil to lubricate the wheel bearings and they are getting a new shot of oil every now and then.

The factory fill is 4. 75 pts (on the 2500's 10. 5 axle) and is well below the fill hole. I did mine the other day and refilled with 3 quarts, makes it simple and its still well below the fill hole yet has a little more than factory.

The factory fill (on the 3500's 11. 5 axle) is 7. 65 pts so if I had one of those I would probably just put in 4 quarts and call er good.
