I am wondering how the different model years with the increase in power do with fuel consumption.

I have a 03 2x4 6 speed AFE cold air intake ,TAG , a banks exhaust with aeroturbine

I also have a VanAakins box

I have been getting around 18-19 mpg in town and 20+ on the hi-way and 15-18 puling a 28' airstream (depending how heavy my foot is )

We are looking to get a 4x4 ( I kick my self for not buying one when I got the 03 )

So with all this in mind how do the newer years compare with fuel consumption?

Thanks

04 here bone stock exept for a straight pipe... . 17mpg across the board doesnt change at all when Im on the hwy kinda sux... ... .

update: I just put the BHAF in my truck with a torque tube and of coarse not very accurate but the avg. mpg went from 17 to 19 going too work this am.....

I recently installed the Roktech crank sensor in the truck in my signature and this weekend I really noticed an improvement in towing our toyhauler. Usually I get 12 mpg round trip but this last weekend I got 13. 5 mpg. Prior to new sensor, I got around 17 mpg driving in the city and the best I've gotten is 21 mpg on the highway. If I drive faster then my mileage goes down quickly. I think 70 mph is the cut off for decent mileage for me so I don't haul ***** when I drive, I'm usually around 65 mph so that helps also. I'm expecting my mileage to drop a bit when the winter diesel hits South Texas.

05 3500 srw G56 6speed 4,400 total miles, 8 fill-ups.

16. 9 lowest

18. 2 highest

hand calculated, mostly city driving, usualy 1mpg less than overhead.

I get about the same, except for the pulling part. If I got the same milage towing as I did driving to work, I'd be camping more and working less. Oo.

I had an '03 QC SB 4x4 3. 73 HO 48re truck that with 79k miles on the clock was getting an easy 22 mpg at ~65 mph empty. I towed the Buick to the track on an open trailer, almost 300 mile round trip and saw 15-16 mpg running 70-75. For some reason that truck got good milage even at speed. 80 mph with the cruise on still netted 18-19mpg. All stock exceot 285 BFG's.

My '05 QC LB 4x4 3. 73 48re truck was getting 17-18 at ~65 empty with 30k on the clock. I would get 14-15 towing a load similar to above so it didn't loose as much towing. I pulled a medium sized Bobcat across Nebraska and with the cruise at 75 mph I was getting about 14. At 80 mph the milage fell off to about 10-11mpg, I drove slower

The well broken in '03 ran like stink, it felt much quicker than my '05, great truck. Now with the yet to be broken in '06 Mega 4x4 I am around 14mpg empty. I don't think the switch to 4x4 is going to hurt much. If you want the milage though I would stick with a pre '04. 5 if you can find one.

I have seen here that the latter models have an extra injection event and wanted to know if that efected fuel consumption. I find it amazing that these Next Gen rigs

have this much power and are so eazy on fuel.

The Roktech crank sensor Looks vary intristing... Does it throw a code??

BHolm The best milage i have ever gotten was in the rockies... 22-25 mpg empty

we wernt gowing to fast but there are a lot up and downs Go Figure

may be its there is less wind resistance altitude

No codes with the Roktech sensor. I put one in and left on a 4700 mile RV trip for a month. Good response and gained a little over 1 MPG while towing the fiver. Have never set a code, and am also running an EZ. Great pulling combo.

18 mpg average here. As low as 13 towing heavy and hard or as high as 20 freeway cruising empty. 400 mile trip last weekend with an empty trailer 10,850# gross netted 18 mpg.

Just got back from a 11 day 3800 mile trip, with the topper on and what seemed like most of the house loaded in the back, along with the wife and daughter :-laf I got 22 mpg. This trip was from Jax up thru the Appalachian mountains to Cedar Point ... around Lake Erie to Niagara falls... . thru the Adirondack mountains to New Hampshire with a couple of days driving around and up the White Mountains (and top of Mount Washington) then back down the East coast thru the NY NJ nightmare traffic and home. My overhead usually shows about about 2 mpg lower than what I'm actually getting.

I don't know about some of these numbers, but I can tell you that I get 12. 5 MPG seemingly no matter what. Since I closed my machine shop in February, I've been hauling horses for a living. 2,000 to 6,000 miles a week, no EZ, EZ#2, EZ#4, no horses, 3 horses, west of Ohio, east of Ohio ... ... ... ... . it's all 12. 5MPG. I put together a spread sheet to help me see exactly what my profit is on each trip and MPG is 12. 5 with a fuel cost of $. 22-$26/mile depending on price.

Stock 05. Average (calculated) is 20. 7. Shows the same on my overhead. I don't have a good number for towing because I usually only tow about 200 miles and haven't topped off, towed and topped off again.

All of my cars get better milage running in the mountains for some reason. On the '03 I would see 27+ mpg (overhead) on the way down to Montrose, which is 30 miles and a 2000' elevation drop. Coming home it would drop and average around 23-24. This is rolling two lane with a 60 mph limit and the overhead was always very close when checked. I don't like to even mention numbers like that since most can't believe them. I just wish I would have had the room and the $$ to keep that truck.

I've obtained as much as 25. 5 mpg highway (interstate) empty with TST PMCR in "econo-mode" (1/0) with my '03 4X4. I'm getting about 23 mpg in just local driving (including commute).
