Just got my "Power Booster News" from Cummins Rocky Mountain. Had an insert about "Two Guy's Garage" doing a show on the improvements to the Cummins and Ram, and the install of the new Jacobs E-Brake on the '03. The show is scheduled for Thursday, 9 January, at 8:00 pm Eastern Time on Speed Channel.

I've seen a tape of the show. The first half of the show gives a thorough overview of the Cummins engine. They have a cut-away engine on the stand, talk about differences versus the previous engine, and give a detailed overview of the fuel system. All 03 RAM owners would probably find the engine overview very interesting.

The second half of the show goes over the installation of the Cummins/Jacobs/Mopar exhaust brake. After installing the brake, they show the switch being turned ON and the brake actuating. You can hear how the brake changes the engine sound at idle.

Although they don't mention it, the brake does help to warm-up the engine when it is turned-on at idle. It cycles itself on and off at idle when the engine coolant temperature reaches somewhere between 175 and 180 degrees F.

Now Carleton, you got me all excited about this thing called an exhaust brake. When are the dealers going to start receiving them for customers that have them on order? Like me?

Thanks for all of the updates. Very interesting.

Pac brake also has one available which includes an electric air compressor. You could tie in an air tank and supply whatever.

A much better system in my opinion. (than vaccum)

The cummins/jake/mopar one utilizes a belt driven vaccum pump (same design as the old ford diesel brake vaccum

pumps) which I have seen seized and the serpentine belt would fry.

The BD brake uses an air compressor as well. I to have seen those little diaphragm pumps fail on a regular basis.

The PacBrake Compressor is the same compressor that we have used for several years on midrange trucks without air brakes.....

These engines have 4" and 5" exhaust and use an inline exhaust brake..... Cummines, IH, Cat.....

We have one on a 91 with close to 450 K miles and its still running... . I wouldn't worry about the life of this unit... .

And the mounting holes have been provided for you by DC on the firewall... It's a matter of screwing it to the fire wall, no drilling... .

Our tech is putting the complete unit on the truck in less than 5 hours... ... .
