Planning to upgrade 02 to 04 but need to know if worth it. Is clutch on 300hp better than the HO 245 I have now? (If I Edge the new HO will the clutch hold it? geusterman

5 speed

Clutch is holding fine on my 5 speed. I'm guessing I'm close to 400 rwhp. It feels like it's holding on for dear life sometimes, and I have had it slip a little bit, but it's fine for now. Don't know if the 5 speed has the same clutch as the 6 speed.

Swayse--yeah, the 6spd behind the HO in 2002 had a heavier clutch than 5spd. Just wondering if the HO for 2003 which has more hp than 2002 was heavier yet. geusterman

I have heard yes and know to it being the same clutch as the previous model HO's, so I can't tell ya for sure.

But I know that with mine running and Edge EZ on level 4 is about all that it wants. You can make is slip if you want to taking off so you have to use a little common sence. Once you are rolling all is fine. I am going to switch mine out for piece of mind, just keep putting it off.

Empty it is no problem, it is when I am at 30,000 GCVW that I notice that it is at its limit

The 01-02 (six speed only) clutch is visually exactly the same as the 03-04 clutch. The only difference is the 03-04 has a little more clamp force (holding power) in the pressure plate... 150lbs. Because the trucks start at 300hp it should allow you to achieve 380hp without slipping. How long it will live at 380hp, only time will tell.

Hope this helps.

I can slip mine with ease in 5th and 6th with the Bully box on high. If they are better than the 01 and 02s its not much. :(

What's the cost difference between the stock '03-04 clutch and, say, a South Bend? If it will hold an EZ and DD2's on my '01, then I'm all set for probably less than a south bend.
