Hey guys, I have 2 small issues I am trying to sort out. The first is when I am trying to back up to a trailer and jump out to check progress, the horn will blow once. If I jump in with the door open to creep forward or backward a few inches the horn starts blowing like the alarm is going off. I am ready to disconnect the horn. Any ideas on what this is??

The second question is about the power locks. Is there a way to have the doors unlock when you put truck in neutral or shut it off? I hate stopping to do something and go to grab something from under the back seat and the door is locked. #@$%! Dodge is the first thing that comes to mind. I never had any of these issues on my old 1st gen:-laf

Thanks in advance

Nothing you can do about the horn. It was a safety feature to keep folks from leaving it in gear and jumping out of the truck. Lots of complaints about that! But if I recall it was only reverse.

Somewhere buried deep in your owners manual there should be a key sequence that lets you set the lock characteristics. Key on off on off with pushing the door locks. It allows you to either unlock all doors or just the drivers and in park or key on/off etc. This is all from memory and it's been a while. Hopefully I got it somewhat right :)

After a lot of googling, you have a couple things to try depending on year.

Fasten Seat belt. If this stops it, you can put a jumper in the connector under the seat.

Ride the brake pedal a bit.

Install a relay so horn will not beep in reverse, or better yet when the door is open. I like this the best. NC relay contacts in horn circuit and pick the relay when the door switch is active. Would have to study wiring to see if door switch goes to ground or positive to wire the relay coil correctly.

Disable the door switch.

Disable the horn with a dash switch.

Keep your door closed when backing and use your mirrors.

Some claim a dealer can turn it back off and others say not!

Thanks for the replies. I'll dig into the key thing. I would think there would be a way to disable it B/C I am sure it doesn't happen with a manual transmission.... Just annoying as can be.

True! For some reason they left us alone.
OTOH, I don't find I ever have a need to back up with the door open.

Yep, I broke that habit (more like it broke me) years ago when I accidently hooked a post with the door when backing up which cost me $$$ to repair and the door on that Chevy pickup never fit right after that incident. BTW, I never allowed that recall to be done on my truck.
