It just arrived, right out of production, the new '03 Pacbrake for the automatic transmission. The six speed has been out a while, but its owner has cancelled the last three appointments due to weather. The brake is, in a word, awesome! Installation is quite simple to say the least. I put one in tonight. And operation, well, poetry in motion. First off, if you start the truck and have the brake engaged, it will stay on at idle until the coolant reaches 175 degrees. Then it will turn off, until the truck is moving... otherwise at idle on a warm engine the brake is off no matter whether the switch is on or off. The strategy that's built into the ECM controls all this. So, you don't have to think about it at all. The switch can be on indefinitely. No worrying about turning the truck off with the switch in the on position. And the engagement is instantaneous, no delay like I noticed with the Banks brake. Less to "teach" the customers. I have my Pacbrake for my '03 before I even have the truck.

How much torture do you think I'm going through looking at that box sitting on my toolbox without having the truck in hand to install it into? :D :D Let's just say that the past two weeks since I've ordered it seemed like two months. :--)

Do you have any information on what the installation of the brake will do to the warranty on the transmission?

Pac Brake

I had my pac brake installed at camping world in bridgepot nj. I paid 285 for the installation and 995 for the brake itself. If you belong to the presidents club you get a 10% discount off the brake and installation.

As much as I'd do it in a moment's notice, I've got a kit for an automatic, and you'd need a stickshift kit. They are different, as the kit we had for Friday's install was missing a couple things, which we borrowed from our stickshift kit. The manual kit has a different hardware bags and harnesses since the compressor goes in a different place, as well as having a clutch switch. I do have the stickshift kits in stock.

There was a Pacbake on e-bay today (closed w/o a bid) for 700$. Dont know hwich one it was. Might come back on the bidding since ther wasnt a taker. I might have bid on it but there was on <33secs left when it showed up on my search. .

We have both the kits in stock as we speak.....

We've sold a great number of the stick shift kits and now are seeing a real swing to the AT kit..... We have seen nothing of the approval for the AT yet the DC dealers we service have been installing the kit for several weeks.....

Carlton Bales says that they don't expect approval from DC until late April or May... ...

I posted prices a while back and didn't know the terms of service so I can't do that again... ...

If you have any questions please PM me..... I'd be happy to supply our 800# if you would like to talk to one of our tech's... .

Hope I've answered your questions... .

Ken,

Attached is a graph of the braking horsepower for the Jacobs/Cummins/Mopar E-brake.

At this point, you will have automatic transmission warranty issues if you install an exhaust brake, whether it is the Jacobs/Cummins/Mopar E-brake or any other. Only the manual transmission has been approved for use with an E-brake.

DC is in the process of testing the 48RE automatic transmission with the Jacobs/Cummins/Mopar E-brake. If you install an E-brake now on a 48RE, you are taking a chance on the transmission not passing the validation testing. In that case, a transmission warranty issue may not be covered.

The latest update I have is that testing will not be completed before mid-June.
