I am shopping and found a very nice 03, price is right as is everything else. Only thing is its an SO but it does have a 5 speed.

My pulling will me minimal and rare so I do not think I need more. Is the SO liveable, or should I hold out.

I plan to bomb but minimal.

Set on 03 early 04 for MPG, no cat, etc. etc.

TIA.

I think that if you like the truck, go for it. Tomeygun's truck is an 03 SO and he is over 600 HP. The SO motors are a little more electronic friendly, if you know what I mean. :-laf Or so I have read on here.

I can't see a reason not to buy one. They seem to respond better to power-adders than HO trucks. What I'm saying is if you add a TST/EZ to a SO, and the same to a HO, the overall HP is about the same at the end of the day.

Sometimes I wish I had a 5-speed. Definitely less shifting when driving around town.

I had an 03 SO with an auto that was putting over 600hp to the ground. I think you are just fine going with that truck. If you are going to be pulling heavy quite often, the 6speed is better, but for regular duty, the 5speed is a great transmission that has held gobs of power behind the 12 and 24 valve trucks.

KEEP ON TRUCKIN'

I love my SO/48re. Mine hasn't been "power bombed" like the other guys, but even stock it delivers more than adequate performance for my needs, and the fuel economy is just outstanding! I say go for it!
