it won't start and pump will not fill up filter canister with cap off. I filled the canister with diesel and it ran for 12 minutes and started doing the same thing. Would only run for three seconds and then done. Now it won't start at all. I changed the filter also. The Codes it gave out were P 0628 and P 0541 can anyone help with the codes?

It sure does sound like a lift pump. Genos Garage has direct replacement lift pumps available if you still have the original pump on the back of the filter.

The two codes don't seem to jive. A bad intake heater might do something to keep you from starting the truck; but when I think about it I've absentmindedly cranked the truck before the light went out and it started. The P0628 was the lift pump in my '04. I only had 70000 on it at the time. NAPA has the lift pump for a good price. Genos price is about the same. They are all made by Carter so don't pay double for a different color box.

The grid heater code is most likely the result of low batteries, from extended cranking trying to start the truck.
