I posted in the 12v fourum also but here it goes. Anyone tried the 17" wheels on an '98? Or the '01-'02 aluminum 16" wheels on an '03? A friend of mine is thinking of trading his '01 for and '03 and he does not like the aluminum wheels. I have a new set of '01 aluminum wheels that wont fit on my '98. Thinking of trading if they fit. The rear discs look larger on the '03 that the '01. And are the 17's going to be big enough to fit over the steering knuckles of the '98? Any thoughts?

WHEEL SWAP

THE 2000 WHEELS WON,T FIT A '99 2500. AND THE MAN ABOVE IS RIGHT, '03 WILL ONLY TAKE 17". IN 2000 THERE WERE 3 DIFFERENT TYPE OF STEERING ON THE 4X4'S. WHEEL OFFSETS WILL HELP. TBOB

What fits what?

I am confused. On the 2nd gen trucks what will fit what? I have a set of aluminum wheels that I was intending to put on my 97 2500 someday that I got off the classifieds here on the TDR. Are you telling me something is different about my 97 that they won't fit???? :--) OH NO! My wife will kill me! PLEASE tell me that it ain't true! Ken Irwin

Kirwin, they changed the offset for the 2000-up trucks. If you got the stock aluminum wheels for the 2000+ trucks they can be fitted with a little reworking (grinding down a bit on the rear drums and something with the steering knuckle). If you do a search there have been threads in the 2nd gen forum talking about what needs to be done.

The offset for 2000+ is +40mm, for 99 down I think it's +10mm but I'm not 100% sure. What it means is the newer (aluminum) wheels will set in closer to the body on pre 2000s by 30mm, and wheels from those trucks will set out further on 2000+ Rams.

Hope I'm not sounding too confusing.

do you happen to know what the offset on the new 03 17" wheels are?
