Hello all, it's been long time since I have needed assistance from the TDR membership but I need some help...

Just yesterday I finally got my truck back on the road after replacing the water pump, idler pulley, belt tensioner, belt, all coolant hoses and the boost tube hoses.

Everything is fine no leaks etc... EXCEPT now I have a high pitch whistle sound once the boost goes over 10-11 psi it's louder than the turbo and I have checked all the tubes and I cleaned everything while it was off so no rust holes or anything in the steel tubes. One thing I did was instead of factory hoses I installed Mr. Bobs silicone hoses, is it possible that the could be allowing some sort of resonance to be heard?

Another thing I noticed was that NOW my boost is like it was stock, what I mean is over the past year or so I noticed if I get on it (Edge with Attitude monitor) my monitor would show the boost run up and hit the limit I have set which is 34. NOW I have to be hammering it to get it to 30 psi, I didn't notice anything obvious in the stock boots like a restriction of some sort so I was wondering if one of them could have been going all along. The truck has 140,000 and I am just having to replace this stuff so think I did pretty good, water pump started leaking was main reason.

If anyone has any idea on this please advise as to where I should look other than reinstalling the old boots just to test... which I might end up doing... I checked all boots and clamps all are tight and the boots are up against the dimples on the tubes and on the intercooler. ???? I don't know what else it could be..I also had in neutral and ran the engine up to 3,000
with no whistle at all so it's definitely something with the boost. I also checked and wiped the tubes with clean blue towel and no oil or dirt came from inside.

Thanks!!!!

Thanks for the input on using shaving cream I'll try that.. It's got to be a bad seal because I never had the noise before installing the new boots. BUT what I don't understand is the boost is working (according to the read out) like it did when stock. I mean I have boost and plenty of it I just have the noise which if it's a leak I would guess it's very small.
The other thing is as I said BEFORE if you were getting on it the boost would jump up over 35 so my alert would go off NOW it's not doing that at all but yet I can hit 30psi but I have to be in 5th gear and hammer down...OR bump the Edge setting up to level 2.

It doesn't take much of a boost leak to make a LOT of noise. The small rubber hose behind the boost gauge on my 2002 had a tiny leak, but it was loud enough to run you out of the cab. One more tie-wrap to tighten the hose over the barb, and the leak was stopped. My point is, you can have a small leak, make a lot of noise and still get decent boost.

I don't know anything about a 3rd gen but does it have a boost controlled waste gate that might be leaking?

Use a device like this, clamp it to your turbo inlet and start applying air pressure slowly until you find the leak. You should not have to go above 10/11 lbs, since you stated that's when you hear the leak. Jess
Aerosol hairspray works as a sealer for boost hoses too, but is a pain to get them back apart and cleaned up.

There may be some one near you with a pressure test rig. You are not alone with a leak. In the last 20 years I have not found a single truck yet that I connected my test rig on that I did not find at least a small leak

Guy's thanks for all the info, I ended up taking all the hose's off and put a slight bit of grease around the steel tubes starting behind the raised rib and then put it all back together and cranked down on the clamps until they wouldn't turn and no more leak!!

Thanks for all the great input I indeed was going to build a tester as JJPage posted I made a similar one when we use to have to blow out the water line from the spring at the farm.

Thank you all and hope you all had a great Fathers Day!!!

Sorry to have to tell you this but you just created 2 problems by using grease. First the grease will breakdown pure Silicone. Me bob is using a unique layer on the powerstrke cac hoses because they are prone to having oil in the cac system. He uses a floro something. Second issue will be blowing the hoses off due to the lube
