0336 Code (replaced Crankshaft Position Sensor) and the code returned

A little back history... 2004.5 SRW 2500 (150k miles) manual shift and pulling a two horse aluminum trailer.

The stock transfer pump failed four weeks ago. Fortunately I had access to a Carter kit from Geno's and was able to get it running again to finish the 400 mile trip. Then I drove the truck without a trailer for about 600 miles with no issues.

While towing that same trailer today it threw a P0336 code and I had to limp it home (couple miles back to base.) Then drove my other car to the dealership, purchased, and replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor with a Cummins/Ram part (5179099). Started up as normal and we restarted the trip. At about 1500-1700 rpm it was misfiring badly. The same P0336 code illuminated again and I'm unable to read/clear by using the ODBII scan port with a "NO BUS" error code on my reader. The code reader is now malfunctioning and will not turn on or off.

Would using dielectric grease in the connectors create a sensor fault?

I'm at a loss and don't know where to head from here... any thoughts?

So I cleaned the grounds that attach to the fenders on both sides of the engine bay. The P0336 code has been cleared and now I'm getting P0243 and P0480. Wastegate Solenoid fuse is not blown... sounds like I'm down to checking more wires. I purchased the service manual CD from Geno's but my company issued laptop doesn't have a cd drive and external devices are blocked from connecting to it... awesome huh

Does anyone have access to the ground locations that they could share?

When I was using the Banks Economind tuner one of the "cable splices" included the CPS. It started throwing P0336 codes, replacing the CPS 2x didn't resolve issue, neither did splicing in a new socket, removing the "cable splice" did. Oh, I also installed that electrical noise filter from Geno's; not the problem either.

Tone ring was found to be perfect, so no glitches there either; was a real PITA. Now, no Banks, no problems.

That sensor & its wiring is in the wind, so chk it for fray's / breaks/ rubs best you can & anchor it w/tape or cable ties, etc. Good luck neighbor.

Gotcha... I'll give that an in-depth looking over in the am and if no luck it'll being relocated to be repaired. I just don't have the time to dig in any further. Thanks for the tips.
