my brother-in-law has a 04 1/2 600 with 1100 miles on it and the day after they got it my sister called and said she saw a puddle under truck when she went to work so i drove over and in the rain i looked and found nothing so ifigured if it was anything i would see something but no sign a week later they came by and ask how full sould the overflow be so we looked at my truck and it was at max line their truck was empty so i checked radiator and it was full. also on back right side of head and down the block it was all crusty white . drove it around then wiggled heater hoses at clamps but no leak. went to dealer and they had to put a gallon of anti freeze in overflow to bring it up to level. said all the crusty white powery stuff was just from assembly. we looked at my truck and very clean. so 2 weeks have passed and today they come by and another puddle under truck and overflow almost empty. you can still see where its running down head and block but when we checked it nothing wet. checked heater hoses again on motor and where they go into firewall ,no leak. found another hose next to turbo with a metal 90 and clamps but to hot to mess with. going to dealer again monday. has anyone had a problem like this? also dealer said they must have forgotton to fill overflow at factory and when truck was being prepped . i guess our first thought of a leak was right.

Check With Engine Cold

My water pump would seep alil fluid when i just cranked in the

morning. When the engine would start to warm up, the block

would expand (duh) and seal the seepage. Not nearly as bad of

a leak as urs but i had the pump and gasket replaced under

warr. and no more leak. -Check for block leaks cold-

in about 10,000 miles i lost mabey 2 quarts...

Check the block heater, I have seen guys on here with loose heaters. You may not have the cord or the heater on a 4. 5 but mine has the heater and no cord.

could also be the pipe plugs on the top of the head. there is several plugs there inline with the fitting where the heater hose comes out of

thanks to you all, i never give it a thought about checking it cold . expansion and contraction. now let me ask you this ,can the dealer do a pressure check on cooling system and find leak if motor is at operating temp?and where is block heater located on motor?

I don't know about the pressure check but here are some pictures of the block heater.

It is located above the oil filter:
