Is there anyone out there that has had to replace this heat exchanger?? Located on drivers side, rear of engine.

It is the first cooler (heat exchanger) that the ATF is routed to leaving the transmission. The second cooler that the ATF encounters is the Air to ATF cooler, located ahead of the radiator.

BTW, I'm told that there is a Thermostat located in this cooler.

I got a quote from moparparts4less $708 plus another $76 for a required tube.

Now to tie this all together, I looked at the Radiator overflow bottle today, and there is a strong "Red tint" of fluid in that bottle. I suspect cross contamination of Coolant and ATF, and the only place those two fluids come together is that Heat exchanger.

Did I mention that the Trans started acting strange about a week ago. I checked the fluid level and it was down a quart & 1/2... Thank you Dodge for building such a reliable truck... . Sarcasm intended!!! #@$%!

The coolant in mine is red. If atf is getting into the coolant it should be making a mess at the top of the water col. Unless there is an orifice or pressure regulator in the atf line some where the coolant pressure might be higher than the atf pressure as the atf dumps back into the pan after the coolers. bg
