My new 600 came in today. Yes!! My new truck clouded by the around 2100rpm vibration. Just to qualify this vibration,... it comes in between 65 and 70mph. It is as much a sound vibration as seat of the pants. Nothing in the steering column felt. It is at hiway travel speeds so therefore obnoxious! I downshifted to 2nd gear on a steep hill and brought her to the 2100 range and felt and heard nothing. I know it's not lugging in 2nd so that may be the reason. My first instinct is that it may be the newly designed exhaust like I have heard others intimate. I have seen nothing where anyone has resolution to this problem. Pls advise if you know the fix.

Also it didn't have the much hailed 2100rpm hesitation but it sure is flat from a stop. It goes strong from about 15mph on up, FYI.

Tks for any help.

Vibration on 600

Big Bob,

Nope on the tire vibration possibility. I was in the tire business for many years and this isn't it. It is more of a drive train vibration and/or the exhaust vibrating somewhere against the body and only comes in when you get to the 2k to 2100 rpm. As I said in the original post, ..... if you could somehow drive the truck without having your butt on the seat you'd still know when you got to that rpm without looking at the tach or by feeling it in the seat of your pants due to the mild sound of vibration that comes on at the same time. Hopefully someone has fought through this previously. Need help.

I read posts on this a couple weeks back only they were like mine in that they identified there was a problem, only I haven't seen any solutions posted yet.

Sounds just like the problem on my 04 "555". In fact next tuesday they are going to temporarily install the 04. 4 exhaust to try to cure it ??????? I ahve already replaced and balanced front and rear shafts. The exhaust idea came down from chrysler engineering so I am dissapointed to hear that someone with an 04. 5 has a vibration problem. My problem is always there but really becomes noticable in the 60 to 80 area and like, "out -of-here's", mine is a high frequency vibration that can be heard and felt through the seats and floor. I am still convinced that it is an engine balance issue.

Hello everyone...

My first post here. Sorry it's about a problem. So far besides this it's one cool truck.

I have the same vibration. It's starts to come in at around 65 mph as an ocsillating harmonic and as I get over 70 it turns into a constant rough feeling vibration. Not heavy but it's there and it's a problem For now I've been avoiding 70. I was hoping a fix was discovered by now since this is an 04 that was built in Dec.

On another site a fellow had his driveshaft replaced and claimed it cured it. It does feel driveshaft related.

Love that turbo whistle.

Wonder if I can get them to install a 04. 5 exhaust too. That would be nice!

this is the same problem mine is having that was unable to be resolved... . in theory the loss of power reflash is supposed to fix it. if it doesnt complain and argue till they fix it... . or make them buy it back..... check your states lemon law... . indiana has to be filed before 18,000 miles..... (my truck has 15k on it in 6 weeks) so i have to complain loud!

Guys-

I reported this problem/solution weeks ago.

The solution is to have the dealer replace the rear driveshaft and the transfercase. I had to get the roving tech involved, but it is fixed. Smooth as glass now...

Whao! The T-case and the driveshaft - expensive for DC. What changed between the t-case and driveshaft assemblies that smoothed it out?

I can't find the post. I have a vibro prob, it doesn't seem that severe, but it's worth looking into.

I have an 04 3500 auto 4x4 with 4. 10 rear end. I get a subtle vibration about 67 mph. Balancing the tires did not help, but rotating the front drive shaft 180 degrees may have helped a tiny bit. I am sure that many other people are experiencing this difficulty, and DC needs to find a solution to this problem.

UPDATE: 04-29-04 the dealership rotated the rear drive shaft 180 degrees and the vibration became worse at 75 mph, so changed back.

05-06-04 my dealership removed the front drive shaft and the vibration disappeared. The DC rep said that the angle of the drive shaft was the problem, and not the balance. I really do not understand the logic.

Yes, I too have the humming sensation at about 2000rpm (70mph). It gets worse when I apply some more power in that region. It is noticable by hearing as well as feeling through vibration. What is that, and does DC know? How to communicate this prolific problem to DC?:(

Chrysler is aware and told me they are working on a TSB.

You should take it in for service, be sure it gets put on record. In addition, call the help line and have thenm start a file on you.

BIG BOB,

I don't mean to bash you but the problem with some of these trucks that have the vibration is not related to the tires! If you had this problem you would realize that. I know Chrysler would love to use this to brush the problem under the carpet.

It is a problem that can be caused by many things that is why it has not been fixed yet. It can be related to engine, drive line or exhaust harmonics.

I know that people are trying to be helpful but if I hear one more person say balance your tires I'm going to puke. Everyone should have the pleasure of riding in a truck ( like my 03 that Chrysler bought back) to appreciate what some unlucky get to experience for $40,000+. :{

All I know for sure, is that the new one will be throughly test driven before I buy. ;)

I know for sure it's not tires. I just put a totally different set of wheels and tires on and the vibe is almost the same.

Today I turned the driveshaft 1/4 from stock position. No difference.

Tire balance and defects can still be a legitimate item on the list in deducing the problem. Obviously the driveline has its own nature of vibration and owners of those trucks can probably discern its source but in the open web questions you are going to have lots of possiblities thrown in as an attempt to be helpful. Being wrong is ok. George

BIG BOB,

Yes, that is a fair statement! I just wish it was a tire balance problem.

Jim

Hum at 2000 RPM? I get a hum sound at that RPM but I atrributed it to wind noise. I get to that RPM but the speed is still low since I am still upshifting and not on the highway. Maybe NOT the wind? Frank
