This problem is strange to me anyway cuz it is intermittent. It has only happened so far at idle or while driving slow speeds. Not just when its cold either but any time. The check engine light comes on and the engine will shake and carry on and then it clears up. The light stays on for a day or so and then goes off. Has thrown about 8 codes already. A couple were cam sensor and throttle position sensor. Maybe some of these were thrown cuz of the engine running rough???

Took it to a diesel shop and he checked the fuel pressure which was good. He said he found some melted wiring which he fixed and said that was the problem. The problem is still there though. Any ideas?? It has about 250k.

What were all the codes? Just saying a couple were cam and crank sensor does not give much to go on. Use the key trick and be specific about the codes that it shows or your just guessing like us.

This is not my truck so I just wrote what my friend told me. I'll have to get the rest of the codes from him. It is stock. I might work on it so I wanted some ideas of stuff to check. thanks

Wow I think the problem is fixed. Just the other night my friend had his truck over and he asked if I learned anything on TDR. I decided to go out and just take a look at this AC wire that JJPage had posted. Sure enough right there by the compressor a wire was rubbing on an AC line. It had rubbed through the harness and started rubbing through the copper strands of wire. We'll see with time whether this was our problem but man I sure think it was. So thanks for the help.

I just passed on info from another source that remedied a familiar sounding situation. If that was the problem, I am happy for your friend.
