04 5.9 SO whats best performance tuner

of course everyone tells you the best is the one they sell. I see Bully Dog and Edge advertised the most, just saw Banks 6 gun. Just wondering? thanks in advance

The one with the least amount of issues that I have worked on or dealt with has been the Smarty.

x2 in favor of Smarty. Also, the SO engine should not be taken to higher egt's like the HO engine. I'd stay under 1300 deg. for sure with those valves, seats, and non-gallery piston cooling (it uses simple spit nozzles like the older engines did).

Really depends on what you are looking for. There is no one right answer. Edge juice with attitude is a safe and economical choice. Smarty arguably has best driveability and most tuning options.
I have a TST that I have not been all that happy with and a smarty jr that has been great.

The edge quality is not what it used to be.I kept one on my truck just for the monitoring,that failed and left me blocking the Vegas strip on a Friday afternoon at rush hour.It pulled down both banks of injectors.

Smarty Jr will likely give you anything you want or need for a daily driver., but if you wanteven more, go with Smarty UDC which gives you (or someonelse) the abilty to custom tune your trucks fueling parameters for your trucks specific build and your specific goals. Its more or less like EFI live for pre-2006 Cummins equipped trucks.

Then you MAY wan to consider the new Smarty Touch, which also gives you electronic gauges..it looks VERY nice, can also do UDC, but of course, you have to be able to pay for it--

lookin to replace my Edge, has problems and NO parts or repair available,06 model, been on since new. Smarty Jr. is what I am thinking.......I am now in Yuma, any suggestions on good place to purchase and install in this neck of the woods or close? Thanks as always.

Buy SJR online from a reputable dealer such as Smarty Resource. Price should be $495 with free shipping wherever you go. Install is easy and you can DIY. I agree that the Edge has to be repaired every so often, but it's a good value and a lot of people run it with minimal problems.

No plumbing with Smarty. Five minute setup and lots of options. Mine was one of the 1st for the G-56 '07 5.9's. A CEL issue was resolved in 24 hrs by Marco and never had a problem since.
My friend's Edge runs hot on his '05 compared to his old Smarty but does offer many features and safeguards.

picked up the Smarty Jr. from Bob, arrived fast and installed even faster. Loaded catcher 2 program and drove in empty and I love it! Will play with it as days go by and when I tow again. Power is much better, smoother throttle and quick!! More updates soon and suggestions appreciated. Thanks for a great product and service........and so simple!!

I've been running a Smarty for years on my 2006. I've talked a few people into the Smarty. All have been very happy.

What power levels are you looking for?? Smarty Jr is a great tuner for most users, and it's big brother covers the rest.

The Touch is also a very user friendly device and has been flawless for me so far.

towed the 5`er with ATV on trailer behind from Yuma to Brenda and back to play for 2 weeks, no big grades but sure improved towing! sure like havin a little more h.p. and torque and smooth! I think you guys got this right!! Very impressed so far......thanks again.
