Just passin this along... ... ...

I bought my rig in June this year and after a week noticed some noise from clutch while in Nuetral and clutch released though it was a noisy throwout bearing no biggie... ... ...

well after 12,000 mi and the noise get louder, I said that enough of this :{

took to the local hemet dodge guys and and bingo bango... wala :) new clutch seems as though that the same TSB for noisy clutches on the 03's still lives on the later models even though it should'nt apply..... the service advisor Dani ( good man ) took care of me and made it right replaced the clutch and now it's as quite as a church mouse... ... .

I just thought I would pass this along to any of you who may be hearing the same thing in your trucks.....

I also wanted to say the the Hemet Dodge guys have treated me first rate on all of my mechanical issues with this truck and my 02 HO which ate 2 injector pumps and a couple of small items... ... ... ... ...

I have the same issue. it started chatering after a few thousand mi. took it to a dealer around 10,000 mi. for the clutch noise and they told me "could not replicate problem". when I took the service rep out to listen to what exactly I was talking about, he told me it was normal and not to worry about it.

Yep, thats my same dealer too, and Dani is my service advisor, had great results there too! Mine has some noise, but it never struck me as being noisy. Maybe you could listen to mine sometime and see if it sounds odd?

Do you know the TSB #?

here's the scoop on that TSB like I said it is for 03 models but may be affecting some 04/04. 5 with old clutch disk's ???

06-001-003 All Rattle sound from transmission when idling.

This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5. 9L Cummins high output Turbo Diesel (sales code ETH) and NV5600 six-speed manual transmission (sales code DEE) built on or before May 11, 2003. The vehicle operator may describe a rattle sound when idling in neutral with the clutch pedal released. The bulletin involves replacing the clutch disc with a revised part.

hope this help ya... ...

hey roperteacher yeah... . not a problem pm me with your number or whatever and I could listen to the noise to see if it is the same???

The dealer spoke to Dodge and was told to replace the clutch disc on my 04 1/2 to solve the clutch rattle. Just picked it up tonight, fingers are crossed it will be gone in the morning.

Any chance of getting a digital image of the OLD clutch disc... I called my dealer and he has none of the old units on the shelf...

thanks

Jim

I have put a 1000 miles on the the truck since clutch replacement and clutch rattle is gone. They had to wait a week to get the ok from Dodge for the warranty replacement. I did not see the old clutch was told the springs were weak and causeing the rattle.

Mine has had it since day one... kind of annoying, but there was a thread way back about it, and somebody from one the big aftermarket clutch companies posted it was just the springs or something, and wouldn't hurt anything, just rattle a bit... I figured I'd rather live with it than have a dealer fix it and risk problems down the road if it wasn't done right. . LOL

All springs take a set in use. The clutch springs may get a bit loose; they are there to quell harmonics and take up shock loads. I'd worry only if the noise indicates they are very loose and might pop out of their cages (this has happened, but rarely).
