My 600 is in the shop. Driving it the other day and the check engine and check guages light came on. Then the oil pressure suddenly went down in the red and right back up. Pulled over and took a looko under the hood. Checked the oil and found that it was reading four inches aboce the normal line!! It was really runny on the dipstick also. Look under the truck, it was all covered in oil underneath. Obviously has diesel fuel in the oil and is spitting it out underneath out of the breather or over flow. Had it towed, they told me I'm the lucky one, first 600 they had in to service and they can't touch till some special technician comes to look monday!!!

Sorry to hear this. By all mean, keep us posted. As one who had my relatively new (5400 miles ) "600" towed a couple weeks ago (see the "Belt Shredding" thread) I can feel your pain, so to speak.

Sounds like a stuck injector. That common rail is quite a firehose with a stuck injector.

You did the right thing by stopping and having it towed in. I hope all your Cummins insides are OK you should probably get a sample of the oil and send it in on your own to see how diluted it is from the diesel

My thought is that its a stuck injector also. It was pretty diluted, makes me real nervous because it was being run like that for awhile. Unfortunately my employees don't pay the bills so sometimes they don't pay attention!! I don't drive that truck to much I have two cummins. My 04 four door is my personal vehicle, the 04. 5 is one of my work trucks. Love both of them!!! Took a fourth place in a truck pull last week with it. Must be those new 1. 7 injectors I put in. :)

Injector problems???

There seems to be a lot of injector problems lately. Nothing scientific in the way of analysis, but it seems most are the High Pressure system. I had three injectors replaced last week by the dealer. So is this really an injector problem or is it a filtration problem. As for myself I use Power Service about every other tank which should do it. Any thoughts or observations??

Another issue along these lines,... is it an old wifes tale that using transmission fluid mixed with your fuel helps clean the fueling system? Anybody know for sure. Also I think I've heard that periodically a use of some gasoline (small amt) will also help clean/purge your fuel system. Any truth to that one? If so, does anyone know how much to a tank full to use??

I wonder if there is a cleansliness issue from after the filter to the inlet of the injector ? Maybe even the injection pump itself could be shedding some type of material !

I'm occasionally using some power service additive in mine, but I am paranoid that if one of the injectors goes to heck, then Dodge could deny warranty if they did a fuel sample and there was some foreign additive in it. I had one stick the other day, ran really rough for a few minutes then smoothed out. No change in oil level, but I plan on visiting the dealer soon just in case there is a permanent problem.

Cummins says no additives, no additives, no additives.

Except anti-gel additive for cold weather and water removal additive only if you absolutly need it.

Definately no transmission fluid.

Well,...about this NO additive stuff....

When my truck was in the dealership and they were evaluating it as per STAR's direction,... one of the things they did was to put in an additive. I didn't ask what it was but I will now. Also I told my dealer I was using Power Service and he didn't indicate that was a problem. I'm gonna call them this AM and get a "for sure" and find out what they put in the tank. Also one more day before my FASS and maybe all this will be a mute point for me,. . hope so. Will get back with ya on this additive that they used. Later.

Only use an additive designed for diesel engines.

DO NOT USE ATF OR GASOLINE.

These additives have a lubricity additive and some have small amounts of detergants to clean the injectors. Only use them as recomended on the bottle. Don't use the old saying, "if a little is good, a whole lot is better".

Best thing is to buy fresh diesel fuel with a minimum cetane rating of 45.

Status report!!! I got my 04. 5 back. Bad injector. fully covered under warranty. As for the 04 with slight injector work. Shouldn't be an issue with the warranty seeing that my dealership put them in. Was in the truck pull the other night, time for some tires!!! **** poor showing 221 ft.
