I have an 04. 5 3500 6 speed manual. Now that summer is here and temps are in the 90-100 I have tried to start my truck a few times and have had the transmission temp high light flashing. When I crank the engine, the engine will crank however it will not start. If the temp is cool, I will not see the XMSN temp light flashing and the truck always starts. Is it as simple as replacing the XMSN temp sending unit? and where is it on this truck?

Thanks

I have the same year truck and transmission and i've never seen that either. Our temps average 102 daily for days on ends here in the butt crack of California.

There is no transmission temp sensor with the NV5600 Rams. Look elsewhere for the fault, maybe the ecm or a wiring harness. Check for DTC's, hopefully there will be a clue there.

I wish they would have put one in then I wouldn't have had to install one. But like everyone has said there is not a trans temp gauge in a manual transmission.

On gas vehicles if the trans temp sensor goes bad (fails high, 260+) the engine will not even crank. I have never seen it on a diesel, but I suppose the strategy could be the same. You may have a configuration problem and the ECM thinks you have an auto. Do you have a down loader you shared with another truck?
