Help-2004.5 Recall

Has anyone had the reflash done and really gained any mpg's? Has anyone had it done and sorry that the did it, as in run worse, or even worse mpg's? I am thinking of telling the dealer that I want it done even though they say I don't need it. The reason I ask is, they said once it is reflashed it can't be undone. I have about 2500 miles on truck and the dealer said everything ck's out fine even though mpg's are in the 12's most of the time. I just wonder if there is a down side to the reflash?

What is the build date on your truck? It seems to be mainly Jan 2004 trucks to which the TSB applies. It is applicable to mine, but I am not having it done, as I have none of the symptoms.

I don't think this reflash has anything to do with MPG improvements.

Edit: I meant Jan 04.

I had mine done. They asked me if I had any of the symptoms, and I just said "yes". How can they argue with about it? I don't think that my milage is any higher, but it certainly didn't hurt anything. I was more concerned about the fix for the reported flat spot between 1500 and 2500 RPM for towing. I don't think you have anything to loose.

Here's the TSB if anyone wants to read it.

Well I had the reflash done on mine. I took it in and they reflashed it and it ran exactly the same as before I went in there, however when I would start it after sitting all night it would blow alot of white smoke and idle rough no matter what temperature out side. So i took it back and they kept it all night to see for themselves and said they had to reflash it again. well now the cold start issue is fixed but i have a major loss in power which was noticable as soon as I pulled off the lot and a nocking noise at idle that wasnt there before (sounds like bad valve cladder in one valve or something). So its going to the dealer in phoenix where i bought it on monday. oh and no change in mpg before or after any of the reflashes.

Mine runs better-especially when cold. MPG is the same. My build date was 1/8 I think. I have 6800 miles now. I recommend it because it fixes a known problem that won't fix itself...

Had mine flashed because of a flat spot between 2000 and 2200rpms. After the flash it developed a surge from 1500rpms on up. Took it back to dealership, cummins techs were on hand for 2 days. They did some adjustments, and told me to use a fuel additive. The truck now blows white smoke @2800 to 3100rpms. going back this week. If yours is not broke do not try to fix it, it could get worse!

My mileage sucks too... the reflash makes no difference.

I got the surge on mine after reflash also... .

DODGE... ..... Buy this truck back!

Well after taking it in twice at local dealer for reflash i took it to the dealer i bought it from 150 miles away and they called today and said there seems to be a bad injector so they need it tommorow for more testing

After taking My truck back for the 3rd time. It was discovered to have a bad injector. The #3 injector was only putting up 60-80%. After changing out #3, the surging went away and the truck runs smooth now. Very pleased. This was a hard diagnostic, because the one day I took it in to get looked @, it would not surge for anything. The tech said that injectors would do that some time.

Like I say, Very pleased with the truck now!! Runs great adn getting 17mpg. 2100miles on truck.
