I just got back from a camping trip today and had some troubles on the trip. After towing the 5er from NY to PA I noticed a slight shudder on acceleration, up to about 10 mph along with a squeak. I suspected a U-Joint, so I crawled under the truck to check it out. The joint just behind the carrier bearing was so hot, you couldnt keep your finger on it.

On tuesday morning I went to a dealership near the campground, and had them put it on the lift. The service tech said he didnt see anything obvious with the joint, but based on my description he agreed to change it. The parts were due in the next morning, so I took the truck 8 miles back to the campground. BAD IDEA... . After pulling into the park the truck started vibrating so bad it became undrivable.

Called the DC Hotline and within an hour there was a F-650 (Cummins Powered) flatbed at the campground. By 1:30 the following day the truck was done and smooth once again. The dealer really did a nice job and did it quickly, since I needed to leave on thursday. They also gave me a loaner truck to use for the day.

By the way, the new U joint has spicer stamped on the end of the caps. Still ungreasable though.

My first joint (center) went around 28k. Second joint (axle) went about 31k.

Great news... . I have something to look foward to. I think I will just go to a good driveline shop and get it done right once.

Lost the same one at 37K. :(

Reckon it's kind of like a marriage. You gets the goods (Cummins) and the bads (u-joint and ball joints). :-laf

My center joint got replaced at 55K. Had a needle bearing pressed into the cap meaning it was there from the get go. Funny, now my launch shudder it much better.
