I just bought an 04. 5 ctd 600. I owned a 96 12v previously. I am hearing the valves rattle incredibly while throttling up going down the road. Is thea loud rattle or knocking noise normal? Did my loud 12v dround out the valve noises I can hear now?

I'm not sure about your noise, but on our 600 it's the injectors that are making the noise - a clacking/heavy clicking sound.

My truck has just developed this clicking that has been discussed on several threads. I first noticed a light clicking at idle after firing the truck up for the first time following installation of a FP gauge. I thought it might be the gauge's isolator at first, but am pretty sure it's quite a bit more serious and could be the injector problem everyone else has talked about. It does happen at low RPMs when engaging the clutch. The thing that seems different to me is that mine seems worse when cold, not warm as others have described. Can anyone who has had this condition chime in and let me know if the injector swap fixed this or whether there are other problems to consider too.

You'll get used to it. When I switched it drove me nuts for a while. Don't even notice it now. Quite normal from what I hear. Something about the 3rd injection event. Whatever.

Next time you change your fuel filter, dump a can of Seafoam in the gas tank a few days beforehand with around a 1/4 tank left. Run it a couple days then change your fuel filter. Drain the filter housing completely, fill it up with more Seafoam, install the new filter, run the engine for 5-10 seconds to get the seafoam into the injectors then let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Fire it up and rev it up to 2k RPM or so for a 30 seconds and shut it off for another 20-30 minutes. Then fire it up and rev it up for several minutes. Take it for a spin and put your foot on the floor to get the junk out. I did this last week and the knock is gone for now and she runs much smoother. At about $6/can it is a cheap fix. I plan to do this for every fuel filter change now.
